92nd st Y pool is very small, at most 4 narrow lanes (often only 3). It is often insanely crowded with age 65+ floaters blocking your way and complaining about real swimmers. The shallow end is *painfully* shallow, literally speaking. Some of the staff members have an impressively snobbish attitude. They were friendly when they court your membership in the beginning. Totally not worth the sky-high membership fee. There is another pool, with Olympic size just blocks away, which is also expensive, but at least you feel great swimming there. The 92nd st Y pool is for senior citizens who do odd exercises in the pool and bath their back near the pump.
