“special order with caution”

This review is for: United Tile

I had to special order 4X12 european tile to get a color match on my existing tile. No bullnose was available but the sales person assured me that the tile could be ordered with either the short or long edge finished. When I placed the order and paid for it, I was told that the finished edge was a random event - sometimes long edge, sometimes short edge, sometimes no edge at all- that I should expect an assortment. Still not a problem since I only needed about 8 pieces max out of the 62 I ordered to have finish on the long edge - I ordered extra pieces to make sure I had enough. The tile came and every single piece is finished on the short edge. Now customer service tells me that they have no guarantees from the supplier and no returns allowed on special orders. If they had told me at the order desk that NONE of them might have the right edge glazed, I wouldn't have ordered. Moral is: don't rely on casual assertions by by people who don't bother to confirm their facts. Additionally, I got a call that one of my tiles had come in, but when I went to pick it up, it wasn't there - wasted trip. Half of my order did arrive before the promised date, but I found out by calling them - they did not notify me that my order was complete and ready for pick up. They do have a nice show room though.
