The greatest Toastmasters club in town, they meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at the Albuquerque Press Club. What makes this group different from the other Toastmaster groups in town is that this club specializes in humor. They teach you how to use humor in your speeches. The club is home to several budding stand up comedians who have been known to try out their routines on the group. Even if you are not a member of Toastmasters you can stop in and visit the group and just laugh yourself silly.

Another Historical place in Albuquerque. It is a private club for journalists located on a hill south of downtown. This rambling log cabin was originally a private home and is now a great spot to have a drink and visit with other journalists in town. Even if you are not a journalist and you want to just see the place they usually let you in. You can wander around the rooms, going up stairs and downstairs and then you end up in the bar and have a nice beer.

As with most people I went to my friends when I needed a vet for my dogs. Juan Tabo was recommended by the pickiest pet owner I know so I figured it had to be good. Our doctor is Lara Tyndall and she is a great vet. My dog loves going to see her. She spends time with your animal first playing with them and getting to know them before she ever begins her exam, she will play with them through the exam to keep them comfortable.

This is the newest grocery store in town and by far the best. Raley’s bought an old Furr’s store and it has taken them several years to redo it. The interior of this store is more than anything you would ever expect in a town of this size. It is beautiful and cozy and elegant all in one. The selection is great, the produce is wonderful. You feel like you are shopping at an exclusive upscale store but you are getting discount prices.

Local good old Mexican Food with lots of flavor. There are several locations around town. The atmosphere at Garduno’s is similar to being in a old Mexican neighborhood in a small town in Mexico. The food is good and plentiful with lots of spice. As with every restaurant you are offered Red or Green and this means chili’s. This is topped on every meal unless you ask for it on the side.

There are two locations for Jackalope one is in Bernalillo about 7 miles north of Albuquerque and the other is in Santa Fe about 50 miles north of Albuquerque. Both stores are great places for something unique. Jackalope specializes in things from around the world they have everything from rugs, to pottery, to HUGE doors from missions in Spain. They have toys from Peru, clothes from Malaysia, pottery from Mexico; just about anything you could want. They have great prices on their pottery but their furniture is a bit pricey. The one located in Santa Fe is more of a Bazaar with lots of booths outside selling jewelry, scarves, etc.

If you are a car fanatic this is the place for you. This is private collection museum with cars dating back to the turn of the century. They have cars you probably never heard of like the Huffmobile. The cars are beautiful and painstakingly restored. You can even watch the garage as they restore some of the cars they have. There is a gift shop with all kinds of fun things to play with. Ask for a tour from the caretakers they have an excellent knowledge of the cars and trucks in their collection. Some of the cars are actually used for an annual vintage car race that goes across the country.
