Mary Arnold Toys has been a good, solid neighborhood toy store for quite awhile now. They carry thebest sellers and have a great selection of craft toys for the kids. It's comforting to see my kids hard at work gluing something together as opposed to just running around the house shooting each other with water guns. The staff is pretty friendly and I've shopped in much worse places. I also like the idea that I'm helping a local merchant so I shop here fairly frequently.

Gotham Book Mart the home of Edward Gorey has moved from it's West Side Diamond District longtime home over to a new space off of Fifth Avenue. The new store looks great but the ramshackle mess of the old store was also charming in it's own way. This is the place to shop if you are interested in books that aren't currently on the New York Time's Bestseller's List even though they should be read.

Tiffany & CO is the greatest of the high end Fifth Avenue Jewelry Emporiums. Four floors of great jewelery, flat ware, picture frames, watches and all other sorts of gift items. Just like in the movie Breakfast At Tiffany's you can purchase something for less than thousands of dollars. They are very browser friendly.

Fassbinder's is a very nice shop. It is minimalist in design and has nice vertical display cases. They sell mostly rings by different designers and most of the rings seem to run between $150 - 500. They also have a few other pieces but this is the place to shop if you want a unique ring . The sevice is great especially the young woman who quite frequently works there.

Fossil is a shop that sells nothing but Fossil watches. They pretty much carry everything they make which is good since I happen to like the looks of there watches. The metal bands and retro dial designs are something I find entertaining. For the price they make great gifts and the boxes are solid which makes them look even nicer as gifts.

Fabrikant Jeweler's is not up there in the Tiffany, Harry Winston or Cartier league. That being said they do a pretty good job and you can get a deal here. They have a separate diamond section and will sell you a loose diamond. It can get a little hectic but once you get a sales person's attention they are very nice and helpful.

I've never had to leave them something in a pawning situation so I don't know how that end of there business works but I have purchased a few items and was quite satisfied by the price I paid for the items I bought. Cartier is one of the world's great first class jewelers. The store is huge and the selection of diamond encrusted items alone can ake you hours to examine. Not to long ago I wandered in when they were displaying tiaras from over the years. It was a wondeful exhibit and this is why Cartier is half store and in a way half museum.
