Since I am doing my internship in Anna, sometimes I go out to eat in the city. One day, I decided to go out to eat and at the last minute went to Pizza Villa. My co-workers have spoken very highly of this restaurant and I thought "why not?" Since I was alone, I ordered a sandwich, an Italian Beef with cheese. While the staff were relatively friendly, the sandwich was dry and not all that great. I will give this restaurant an "ok" rating on faith, since I have seen coworkers eating the pizza and oohing over it.

I am doing my internship in Anna, about a half hour from where I live, and every now and then I just have to go out to eat (I mostly bring my lunch). My boss told me about a Chinese Restaurant called King's Wok that has a lunch buffet. I went to try it out. The buffet was okay, not exactly the best as I am used to large super buffets with over 50 items, and this buffet is pretty small with no dessert on it. The one thing that keeps me going back, however, is that this place has an awesome honey chicken that is to die for and one can eat here for less than $5 a person.

I had a chance to visit Cindy B's in Murphysboro last month with some friends and was very impressed. The food was good (I had an Italian Beef sandwich) and reasonably priced, with very friendly waitresses. I have heard that they have good pies but have not had a chance to try them yet. Will try to do that soon.

I have eaten only at a couple of Thai restaurants, one being in St. Louis, and this is the other one I have eaten at. A friend and I went for lunch. The portions are good and I thought the food was fresh, but my friend said that she thought it wasn't the best. Regardless, it wasn't as spicy as I thought Thai food usually is. I was disappointed at the end when they asked if I wanted dessert, and after I said yes, they said they were out of dessert for the day. The disappointment!!

I have used the Kitty Klinic when it was time to spay or neuter the cats, since they accept the spay vouchers and are cheap out of pocket for neuters. Dr. Elisa Kirkpatrick, the owner of the Klinic, has fixed three of my cats, and nurtured one after a particularly rough time for her. One of my cats had a miscarriage about two years ago, and I was worried sick about her, that she would have complications after the miscarriage. She went in two weeks after the miscarriage and Dr. Elisa was great with her and with me. Dr. Elisa also allows moms and dads to come visit with the kids after surgery. If it weren't for the fact that I get the 10% discount at Central (and I do like them in general) that I really need to financially survive, I'd switch.

I am a big cat person; I have four. They are an essential part of my life; they're family. When I need to take these guys into the vet, I take them to Central Hospital for Animals. We've had the same vet for about two and a half years now. The vet is very attentive to the animals, but does not overly make over the cats (something they hate). We usually get in and out in about 30 minutes max, and this is with two cats. By the way, Central gives a 10% discount if you bring in two or more animals at the same time for care.

QQ Bubble Tea opened about a year and a half ago right next door to Carmen China House and started selling a variety of fruit flavored drinks -- some are made with fruit and white, green, or red tea, and some are like the Slushies you get at Dairy Queen, but with a twist. Any of the drinks can include an extra item such as tapioca balls, gelatin, or fruit extract that is mixed in with the drink. The store also sells little egg shaped cakes that taste like warm pound cake. This restaurant is run by Chinese immigrants who imported the idea from Taiwan. The owners, a husband and wife, are the sweetest people you would ever want to meet, and a perk for those who get "addicted" to Bubble Tea -- as several of my friends and I have -- you get a card where after nine drinks, you get one free!!

If you like Chinese food, you will love this restaurant. The owner, Carmen, is an immigrant from Taiwan who opened this restaurant in the 1980s to support her family. She uses fresh vegetables and meat in her cooking, but even better is that Carmen comes out to visit with her guests during dinner! Many of her diners are regulars who have fallen in love with her food. The restaurant is very small and intimate, seating about 30-40 people maximum. By the way, if you ever wonder about what to order when there the Green Bean Chicken is very, very good!! Someone turned me on to it a couple of years ago and it is one of my favorites.

Quatro's is the best pizza in town and has been a favorite of mine for over 10 years. They have incredible deep dish pizza (which almost everyone who dines there gets) and on Monday nights they have whole wheat pizza. If you are lucky enough to have a discount card from either 710 or an alumni membership you also get a free pitcher of soda with a large dine in pizza. A nice plus for diners with kids -- they give free "kids' salads" made up of croutons and cheese, with a side of crackers.

I know several people who shop at Rag Wear, including co-workers and one of my closest friends who got clothes for her 10 year old daughter here. The clothes are clean, in good condition and in style. The store also sells a variety of accessories such as belts and handbags and had some very nice Christmas gift baskets when I stopped in the other day.
