I went here twice before switching to Salon Luna (see another review). Both times I got a very good cut by a tall bald guy (Craig, I think, but not sure). It was about $45 for the cut and dry, and some $90 for highlights touch-ups. The reason I switched to another salon (aside from all the recommendations I got for Salon Luna) was that the last time I went, I asked for highlights touch-ups again, and the guy gave me full highlights without discussing that with me, and then charged me for it. That just turned me off from them.

I have been to Salon Femia a few times and have always been very happy with my haircuts. I have seen two different stylists and they both knew the current trends and gave me very modern and stylish cuts. They also recommended different things that I could do with my hair to make it look better and they were right!
The prices were average for the type of salon. About $30 for a regular wash, cut, and style. I would highly recommend this salon.

My husband gets his hair cut at Razors. It is several blocks outside Davis Sq on Highland Ave. They do an awesome job, and he has difficult hair to cut well. And, my husband's favorite part is that they have video games (playstation, etc) at each barber station! It's perfect for an ADD guy who hates sitting still long enough for a haircut. And their prices are extremely reasonable. Sometimes their hours are a little sporadic - so call first to check!

I'm not a big fan of "fake bake" tanning - but I was in a few weddings and needed to get rid of some tan lines in order to wear strapless dresses. I was a bit creeped out by several other salons I poked my head into - and then I found Xtreme Tanning in Davis Square. It's SO clean! Everything is sterilized, the staff is really helpful for first-time tanners like me, and I never had to wait for a booth! It can be a bit expensive, but they send out coupons every so often which give you a good deal. If I ever need to tan again, I'll definitely go here.

This place is located right in Union Square. I went one afternoon to get my hair cut - it was a weekday, so I was the only one in the salon. The one thing that I found disturbing was that all the hairdressers spoke Portuguese to each other while I was getting my hair cut and were obviously talking about me, but since they assumed that I don't speak Portuguese (I don't) they could speak freely about me right in front of my face. It was weird. I did like the haircut, and that was the important part, and the price was reasonable, which was also helpful.

I went to Massage Therapy Works with a body in crisis and came out feeling totally restored. I have only seen Kerry here, but she is terrific, sensitive to both physical and emotional needs. They are open until 8pm most nights and get extra points for being open on Sundays. Weekend appointments fill up fast so book early. You can request a man or woman if that matters to you. Peaceful environment. They also do gift certificates and acupuncture.

Julie's Nails comes with mixed fans: some, like me, have gone there, plunked down $20 for a pedicure, and come out all vibrated and buffed and painted feeling just dandy. Others have come out with sloppy work or, worse, infections. Going here may be a gamble, but if you bring your own pedicure kit, you can still benefit without worry from the free tea and treats wheeled up and down the center aisle, the cheesy magazines pressed into your hand while you sit, and the grinding yet weirdly pleasurable "massage chairs." My nails have come out perfect here, and these jobs LAST.

Before I got married, I'd never had a manicure in my whole life - but I had one the day before my wedding and now like to treat myself every few months or so. I had walked past Davis Sq. Nails many times when it first opened, so decided to give it a try. They do a great job, nice selection of polish colors (all OPI usually), they are clean and hygenic as far as I can tell. My only complaint is that I sometimes have a very hard time understanding the woman who does my nails b/c her accent is so strong - but we usually manage to understand eachother enough for my nails to get done the way I want!

More
I kept hearing about Dana at M Salon on Mass Ave - that he was the Boston mecca of curlyheads who'd suffered bad haircuts at the hands of others. It turns out he was okay. He is very sensitive to your needs, even cautious. He looked at my hair thoroughly when it was dry, before he washed it (I am dying to find a good dry cut in Boston, so if you know one, drop me a line please!). The washing was lackluster and the styling was awful - he basically smeared a bunch of gel in my hair and then raked his hand through while blow drying it. But once I got home and washed it myself it turned out the cut was okay. It got better as it grew out, and at two months it was perfect. I'm still saving my pennies to go to Devachan in NYC twice a year; Dana's a good price ($45) in a pinch.
