not all outdoor furniture is created equal and this teak furniture is not only easy on the eyes, it's comfortable (hence the name). it always strikes me as a bit pricey, but it's good quality and they have a scratch and dent sale a couple of times a year (it's on today - Aug 28). i have an adirondack chair and it's super comfortable and inviting.

I've worked with Dave on a series of projects - from a garden fence to a complete home remodel - and found him to be a very skilled designer, able to come up with creative solutions to difficult space and cost constraints. He's easy to work with, doesn't cop a lot of architect attitude, and tells you what he thinks.
If there's one area of concern with Dave, it's that he doesn't always nail down the business details the way he should - items like matching estimates to bills, etc. can get lost in the shuffle. Keep an eye on that and you're sure to be happy with your results.

More
If you garden, need mulch and don't want to pay $10 an ounce at your local hardware, take the biggest car or truck you can borrow down to Sawdust Supply (under the West Seattle Freeway). They have pre-bagged mulch in several varieties (including a bark + municipal water treatment sludge mixture for the recycling-minded) for less than half the cost of the big box stores. If you use a lot, they also deliver bulk (by the yard). I recommend the SteerCo mix - half ground bark and half steer manure - great natural weed control plus soil amendment rolled into one.

More
SHED is a design/build collective founded by four UW architecture grads with a passion for spare, thoughtful building design coupled with exacting craftsmanship in construction and detailing. With several award-winning public commissions (including the Pike Place Market museum) and a growing list of private residences to their credit, the group is quietly building a reputation for excellent work. In addition, the partners have individually and collectively shown their conceptual design work at a range of local galleries and exhibit spaces, and have been as well received for their theoretical contributions as for their built structures. If want a design partner who will challenge you to create great design and great space, SHED is a great place to start.

More
I stumbled across Seattle Tilth on a walk through my neighborhood - they run an experimental garden on the grounds of the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford - and have been a fan ever since. They're an education-oriented non-profit, and offer a wealth of local and national resources for help with planning, creating and maintaining organic gardens. They also organize an excellent heirloom plant sale in early spring (where I typically buy most of my vegetable starts). They're worth supporting through membership, but whether or not you join, they're a great place to start to learn more about how to garden responsibly.

More
Unless you're a contractor, you'd never know that the big brick building on Stone Way is one of the best-stocked electrical supply shops in town. Don't be intimidated by the gruff exterior - pull in around back and belly up to the counter.
You can't browse the aisles like you can at the big box stores, but if you know what kind of electrical supplies you need (everything from fixtures and cable to tools and controls), they've got it on hand, and for a great price. Even an electrical novice like me can come away with just what I needed (with a little help from the patient folks behind the counter). Recommended.

More
My wife and I had the remodel from hell - halfway through demo, with the roof off and winter coming, we ran into unexpected foundation problems. In the end, we had to dig out 2/3 of our foundation, drive 85 steel pilings (and watch our hole in the ground fill with water for 2 unplanned months). Swenson Say & Faget were the folks that put us back on solid ground. We didn't have much contact with them (our architect hired them), but they cranked out the studies and structural recommendations that we needed to solve our problems. Can't speak for their interpersonal skills, but our house is still standing...
