I enjoy walking around the University Village on a sunny day, and its always fun to stop by the Apple Store to see what's new. I've purchased a few items over the last year, and the friendly geeks at the Genius Bar have helped me a couple of times. Unfortunately, the Apple Store has a very short window for returning defective hardware or software. Be sure to shop on Friday night or Saturday morning and then plan to spend the weekend testing out your new equipment (or software). If something is wrong, run don't walk back to the store to return or exchange your item before the short window for returns is closed.

I went to help a friend buy a computer today. We checked out CompUSA, Circuit City, The Apple Store, and Best Buy. My friend decided that he would purchase a computer from Best Buy because they truly did have the "best buy". However, their service was sub-par. I suppose that is the cost of a lower price. Not only did the original store we went to have sub-par service, but they sent us in a wild goose chase to two other stores, finally ending at the Everett store. This was the worst service I have ever received. Not only did this employee not seem to care about my friend and his experience in that store, but my friend had cash in hand and the employee shrugged him and his questions off. He claimed they did not have the model that we were specifically sent to Everett to pick up, but he just took off with no explanation only to help another customer next to us a little bit later, with not so much as an explanation. We then took it upon ourselves to find a manager, who ended up finding the right computer and then spent the next hour trying to sell us on their service warranty (supposedly this covers accidental damage). Which, by the way, sucks too. I bought it for a camera and when the camera stopped working I was told that I had dropped it and it wasn't covered under their warranty (when I shared this anecdote with the store employees they didn't seem shocked that I was treated in this manner at a different store and was told that I should have made the 30 minute jaunt to their store). I find myself sickened by these large corporations. Whether their warranty is flawed or their training of employees, I have never had a good experience at them.

I'm an environmentalist. I really do respect the idea of reuse. It's just that, sometimes..... it really IS time to stop using that old crap and get something new. Those who go to RE-PC wouldn't agree with me. They would be ecstatic to pay 40% of the cost of a new computer that runs at 10% of the speed and sucks up twice as much power. "So cheap!" they would say, ignoring the fact that there are no refunds for broken hardware.
So, if, say, you're a ham radio operator that still thinks vacuum tubes are the shizznet, then RE-PC is for you. If you value your time and your power bill, look elsewhere.

Looking for computer parts but don't want to bother with CompUSA or the like. If need motherboards, cpus or cases they got them. You can also find some specialty parts that are usually only available online. You want to get a computer the size of a VHS tape they've got it. It's a small store so the staff are eager to help and know their stuff.

Don't EVER go here for repairs if there's any urgency in getting your computer back at a reasonable speed. They are completely incompetant or else don't have enough people on staff, I havent figured out which. They don't care.
The manager plays "bad cop" and has a pat answer to anything you may ask (guy with the beard.) For your amusement, go in there sometime and just watch him field all the problems that come in. Many people leave pissed off. Never again am I going to this branch.

We are complete idiots when it comes to computers, routers, networks, ISPs, ABCs, 123s, you get the idea, at my house. We have three computers and high speed internet and when we didn't know why we couldn't connect to the internet we freaked out. And then called PC Fix. The guy on the phone was so helpful, and kindly understanding how inept I was at the situation, and helped me to troubleshoot before setting me up with an appointment. Jay came to the house (the next day!) and with a couple of clicks, a new router, some helpful tips and tricks, we were all set up and ready to go (and much safer to boot)! They charge $50 bucks to show up at your door and then $1 a minute there-after. He charged us for 45 minutes, but he was definitely there much longer, and gave us his card so we could call him directly if anything happened after he left, and made sure we were happy!

I love staples in general for one reason. I have faith in them that they provide high quality costumer services. I am sure that I buy a product at its best price as staples assure me that by guarantee price match. I've done price match a few times with them and never a problem. Such is not always true with circuit city as I heard that other people's request has been rejected due to different reasons circuit city claim.

I only use this place for replacement parts.
This small shop has an OK selection, and their prices are also just OK. I've never been impressed with the service because it seems like the staff is just marking time until closing. I showed up last week at 2 minutes after 7pm (they close at 7) looking for a couple of hard disk drives. The fellow closing up at the register just stared at me blankly through the glass, then wandered away to the back.
I went over to Sam's Club (next door) and got the exact same HDD for less.
So, I'll keep coming back until I hear of some other place in my neighbourhood.

The best known of the paid help sites in this roundup—thanks to quite a bit of television advertising—Geek Squad adds a touch of humor to its service. After a customer support representative took our payment information, we were entertained by several minutes of hold music accompanied by an occasional scream of the horror movie sort. Had we had more at stake on the outcome of this exercise, we might not have been so amused. Geek Squad does offer on-site services, charging $129 to $229 per job, presumably without the music. Have used this service and seems to be very helpful.
