We went through Northtown travel early this year to help out with our Disney World trip. I had seen this company because it was located in the mall & decided to give them a try. I was surprised when the agent had said she wasn't familiar with Disney info! I thought for sure that would be something they would all be knowledgeable on. We ended up having a lot of problems with them getting the tickets right, hopper passes etc... They did manage to work it all out eventually, which was a good thing. It just took a lot of patience for them to get it right. They were an ok agency, but I'm not so sure i'd go through them again.

The best thing to happen to Metro Transit is the new city train. It is an asset to the city. The train travels from the Mall of America to the Warehouse District in downtown Minneapolis. The train goes right by the Minn. Twins MetroDome, so it was great to get to and from the Twins baseball games. We have used it plenty of times with the children and they just enjoy the train ride even though it is a short ride. You can an all day pass or just pay as you go. You can even get the transfer to continue your journey using the very clean bus system.

If you are in for a treat, make your stay at the Graves 601 Hotel. It is by far the finest and hippest hotel in the Twin Cities. In 2004, it was named one of the best new hotels in the world by Conde Nast. I can see why. Hospitality is top notch. They have a fine restaurant & bar, Cosmos, which is a must see. It's a great spot for a romantic or business stay. If you stayed a W, this would be the closest comparison. It's located downtown, just blocks away from Nicollet Ave and right next door to the Target Center.

The Marquette Hotel had one of the biggest rooms I had ever stayed in. I was in a corner room with tons of windows. The decor was pretty standard but the size was overwhelming. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is not too far from the Metrodome. In addition, the hotel is attached to a mall.

Mill City Museum is an interesting place. Good if you want to find out what made Minneapolis Minnieapolis. This would be great for kids and a beautiful location.
I enjoyed the multi-media ride very much.
Downside is that it seems like most of the products the museum displays and demonstrates are advertisments for the products still in existence.

I had kind of a nightmare a couple days before Christmas when we missed our connection in Minneapolis from New York to Phoenix due to bad weather and chaos at LaGuardia. A free shuttle took us from the St. Paul airport to Hampton in the middle of a bitterly cold night and the hotel staff warmly welcomed us and made us feel very nice. They had wireless internet which was great and the area was a wonderful reprieve. In the morning the hotel staff, mainly the manager, went above and beyond to welcome us during breakfast and express condolences that we had missed our flight. It just made a bad situation turn right around, and it was especially appreciated that Christmas Eve.

I was flying to NY in July, and needed a cheap fare. Did a lot of comparing and found that Hobbit had the best price by about $100. Yeah, it was on crappy Sun Country airlines-but it was also non-stop-unlike any of the other majors except Northworst.
Another bonus is for the internet-phobic--with Hobbit travel you actually get to make your reservations with a live person located in the Twin Cities.

More
The Metro Inn, and its sister (??) motel Aqua City next door are complete anomolies in their well maintained residential/suburban neighborhood. Their heyday was obviously the 1950's, when transcontinental travel by car was king. Now, both are rundown, seedy, residential style inns. The mint green painted pool at Aqua City (thus the name) hasn't seen water in years, and the Metro Inn often has shady looking characters lying around on the front lawn.
Which is really a shame. Both motels sport a lot in the way of 1950's retro modern architecture, and should be preserved in some fashion. If they were in a more urban area, perhaps they could be converted into a sort of hipster, rockstar hangout, like the Phoenix in San Francisco.
