To all of you who are frustrated with the logjams in emergency rooms across the country......it's never going to change until they start throwing out all the people who are sitting there with cold symptoms and boo-boos. I really feel that the ER should be able to tell a patient (or their responsible party) to go home and see a family doctor or a clinic in the morning. Guess what, Mom? If your kid has a cough at 10:00 PM, she had that cough at 2:00 PM......you could have called the doctor. York Hospital does a good job when you consider that 75% (yes, that's right) of their patients are not having a true emergency. I was in and out of the ER with both of my parents over the past 5 years or so, and we've always been seen promptly. One way to tell if a person needs to be in the ER is to listen for them to complain about the wait....if they can complain about it, they just might not be that darn sick.
