I wouldn't be skiing if it wasn't for Leif and the crew at the Strand. No doubt about it. years ago as I struggled to find a boot to fit a stupid high arch, stupid wide feet that pron-ate and are actually different sizes (ugh), no shop around Boston could help and at least two said Strolz boots - Strand. So I went. I paid $600 for Strolz, custom fit back in 1996, custom shells mismatched insides to match my mismatched feet and I've been thrilled ever since - that's right..still skiing them and I ski as much if not more today than back then. Strolz are not cheap and are now probably around $900 but critical to understand...it truly is a custom boot and they have stood behind it as it has LIFETIME FIT guarantee. If you have trouble feet...I mean from one spot to many, this is the boot and the place.Leif has spent countless hours tweaking my fit over the years as both boot and foot have changed over the years. I can't impress upon anyone enough that this is the place to go for gear, expert opinion knowledge on maker and method and in the fast paced ever changing world of gimmicks, gear changes and consolidation of makers in the world of ski equip....THIS IS what you want to know about when you shop. This is a guts not glory shop where Ptex and wax permeate the air and the glint of the last ski runs for all comers can be smelled and felt in the air. Strands, like any family owned shop is proof that not everyplace will suit everyone but also why they are still pumping out properly equipped skiers decades after they opened....you wont find 60 types of spider wear, like those shops that rely on tuna with good taste, but the very best essential - ahhh tuna that tastes good. If you want the latest Aspen wear this isn't the place. Been a skier since childhood, lived in New England, Colorado and Utah...owned lots of equipment and dealt with a lot if great ski shops. This is not one of them. They were rude to my husband, he went in for a tune up and they harassed him about his ski equipment, saying it was too old, why bother...etc, etc. When he went in for a tune up on his (2 year old) snowboard, he got a similar routine - they asked Didn't I sell this to you like 15yrs ago?So, stupid me, thought, they could not possibly be that rude - right?I went in, looking to buy a pair ski boots, and wanting to possible try some demo skis for an upcoming trip. I spent ten minutes with the sales guy telling me I did not know what I needed - (I like a shorter ski sock which he disagreed with so offered a dirty pair of loaners he felt were more appropriate) - he proceeded to show me only boots he approved - I was looking for soft siders, whoch I said MANY TIMES....Then I left.I was prepared to drop 400 or more on a decent boot. These people are so rude and F&%^&*%^ arrogant, I would not reccommend them to anyone. Go elsewhere!

Strands is very helpful with picking out the right equipment for you, but they will pick out the top of the line so make sure you tell them your price range. They custom fit boots and do a fantastic job tuning skis. The store is dog friendly too.

Having everything ranging from sleds and innertubes to GS suits and snowboard boots, Strands has the complete winter sports collection, at all times of the year. Though mainly for Skiiers, other winter splrts fans can find msotly anything here, though not in bulk, and not for cheap. This store is great because if you need something quickly, you can always find it there, but you may end up paying more than you had hoped for.
