I am searching for a restaurant for celebrating my husband's birthday. I noticed a wonderful right up for Coral Seafood. While I was there a few months ago, the anger I have from that visit welled up all over again. We arrived at Coral without reservations. We were told it would be 20 minutes. Totally understood. We went to the bar. The bar waitress walked by us several times. She stopped and spoke to patrons already served. She cleaned counters. She talked to wait staff. She rearranged bar ware. She completely ignored us and several other new comers at the bar. Finally, after nearly a half an hour (in which we weren't seated either) I asked her if she intended to serve us. She launched into a huge tirade about how hard she worked and told me I incredibly insensitive to her ordeal and the rigors of being a bartender. Then she walked away and continued to ignore us - and others at the bar. In the meantime, being close to the hostess table, I realized other guests without reservations were arriving and being seated quickly. Upshot, after 45 minutes we left without even having tasted their water! Certainly I cannot recommend Coral Seafood or the rude mentality of their staff.
Pros: None
Cons: No Service

Coral Seafood isn't the same restaurant as it was when it was on Water Street. The large ceilings and fancy surroundings have taken away the cozy atmosphere and replaced it with a pretentious feeling. And the prices on their menu are inflated to match their new location on Shrewsbury street. The food is very good, but I don't feel the prices match the portions. Some of the wait staff is very attentive and helpful, but I get the impression that was only because we were dining with an older couple. A lot of the senior clientele from the old location still come to the restaurant. When my husband and I returned alone on another visit, we were ignored for most of the meal. I do appreciate seeing the owner visiting tables to check up on her patrons. Plenty of parking in their lot. The building also houses a Starbucks.

We were at the DCU for a Show a couple of weeks ago, and came across Coral. It is a stunningly gorgeous restaurant, with great food and service, and low prices that I have not seen for a Long time, we are from Boston. And this Place Rivals any Fish House in our area.... Wish we came to Worcester more often...

To be honest, what prompted my posting was the former post which stuck me as absurd. Here is my personal experience...
My date and I arrived for a mid-afternoon lunch on a Saturday afternoon in early October. As this was our first time at the new location on Shrewsbury Street, we were entirely awed by the stunning atmosphere.
Our server was extremely attentive and informative. She assisted us with our selection of a fantastic wine which flattered our food selections perfectly. Our appetizers were delicious tuna maki rolls and a delicious seafood fritters. My date had a delicious seafood scampi dinner that was off the regular menu. He selected exactly which seafood he wanted in his dish, and exactly what quanity. I ordered the sesame crusted tuna steak (from the dinner specials) which was supurb. The food was a 10!
After some conversation with our server, she gave us a tour of the entire space which includes a beautiful upstairs private dinning suite which has a balcony view and a enourmous back function room for very large parties. Our fantastic and delicious experience experience in the dinning room led us to book the upstairs room for a private party in November. Fantastic results again.
Both of our experiences in the restaurant were flawless. I came across the prior negative review trying to see if I could find a recipe on the net for a similiar seafood gumbo that we enjoyed at our event.
Everything for us and our guests was a 10. I strongly encourage you to try Coral Seafood for yourself.

As a former employee in foodservice (waitress, caterer, bartender and anything in between;) I have a level of understanding of the difficulties in serving people, and it takes a lot for me to leave less than a decent tip... however the lack of service my gathering & I received at this restaraunt was enough to leave less than a desirable tip, and enough to talk to the manager before we left. Slow and somewhat rude service, flat drinks, and obviously poor & uninterested management will make me not return to this establishment. If only we could have tipped the chefs rather than the waitstaff!
Pros: food, easy parking

Cute place w/excellent food & service. Took a random shot @ Coral (coming out from Boston) and we lucked out! Great family owned place & the best Swordfish I've had in quite some time. Save some room for their Key Lime Pie... it tastes like it should (like they make it in Key West!) and it's $3! We'll be back for sure next time we're in Worcester... high quality seafood @ exceptionally reasonable prices. Thanks Coral!
Pros: Price, Relaxed, Fresh Seafood
