I must say, for its proximity to Worcester's Technical Institute, it sure is a great art museum ;)
First of all, rates: admission is free from 10am to noon on Saturdays. Otherwise it's $8. Children under 18 are free, so bring your kids!
They have pictures dating back centuries, and even some modern art. You can get headphones for a self-guided audio tour. There's a lunch bar (expensive) and gift shop, and I think they even offer art classes if you're so (no idea what that would cost). Make a day of it or just stop by for a walk through! Get cultured!

I wouldn't be skiing if it wasn't for Leif and the crew at the Strand. No doubt about it. years ago as I struggled to find a boot to fit a stupid high arch, stupid wide feet that pron-ate and are actually different sizes (ugh), no shop around Boston could help and at least two said Strolz boots - Strand. So I went. I paid $600 for Strolz, custom fit back in 1996, custom shells mismatched insides to match my mismatched feet and I've been thrilled ever since - that's right..still skiing them and I ski as much if not more today than back then. Strolz are not cheap and are now probably around $900 but critical to understand...it truly is a custom boot and they have stood behind it as it has LIFETIME FIT guarantee. If you have trouble feet...I mean from one spot to many, this is the boot and the place.Leif has spent countless hours tweaking my fit over the years as both boot and foot have changed over the years. I can't impress upon anyone enough that this is the place to go for gear, expert opinion knowledge on maker and method and in the fast paced ever changing world of gimmicks, gear changes and consolidation of makers in the world of ski equip....THIS IS what you want to know about when you shop. This is a guts not glory shop where Ptex and wax permeate the air and the glint of the last ski runs for all comers can be smelled and felt in the air. Strands, like any family owned shop is proof that not everyplace will suit everyone but also why they are still pumping out properly equipped skiers decades after they opened....you wont find 60 types of spider wear, like those shops that rely on tuna with good taste, but the very best essential - ahhh tuna that tastes good. If you want the latest Aspen wear this isn't the place. If you want some gently used gear for your 8 year old, a brand new set up with the knowledge and backup for you, or a boot fit that consistently ma

When my doctor told me that I needed to buy running shoes because of my foot injuries, I wasn't very happy. However my brother who lives in the Worcester area recommended Sneakerama to me. Now living in Sacramento, CA I didn't really want to buy shoes without first trying them on. But I decided to give it a try anyway. The online service was fantastic! I was constantly receiving emails from people telling me that the shoes were in stock, when they were shipped out, and when I should be receiving them. I even got a free pair of socks! Oh, and the shoes fit perfectly. The Asics 2130 were recommended to me, and they have worked great! This is a great store, and you shouldn't be afraid to buy online from this store, even if you live across the country!

Sneakerama is as good as it gets. When you walk in to the store, you are greeted. The person that greets you wants you and your feet to leave happy. It doesn't matter the time of day. If you walk in 2 minutes before close you will be given the same time and attention while never feeling rushed. The staff is so much more knowledgable than any other store I have been to, it is almost comical. They know precisely how to accomodate your foot, sometimes just by looking at how you wore out your old shoes!!!!!!!!!! What? I could go on all day. It is comforting to know that this place exists. The family that runs it is beautiful. You can't possibly go there and be dissapointed. Enjoy!
Pros: Best service, best prices, family owned.
Cons: There isn't one next to me in Medford!

I have known this store for over fifteen years, and the owner is simply the friendliest guy in this type of business. If you want something and he doesn't have it, he can special order it for you, and if it's available he will get it. You can also seat down and have coffee with Roger (the owner) and even exchange ideas on comic books, philosophy, life, role playing games, music, and even food recipes. Roger is simply the friendliest guy in this type of business in all of Worcester city.

London Billiards has some of the best tables I've ever seen. They run tournaments on those things. Course, you pay for it. 21 name-brand tables all fitted with championship cloth. They open the food bar at 7pm if you want snacks. They also have some private rooms if you're doing a party or want your own little tournament, I guess. Not somewhere I go often, but I want one of those tables.

This is a nice place to walk or jog in the mornings. You could probably get a good bike ride in, too. It's partially wooded and there are some gentle hills. There's a one mile track marked at 1/4 mile intervals, and a smaller 1/4 mile loop around the sports field. Unfortunately, there's a fair amount of litter from people who watch the football games, and sometimes people who walk their dogs don't always clean up after them (eew). All in all, I like it better than paying for a gym and it's much more interesting than running on a treadmill.

Kangaroo Crossing is very popular with people who keep track of sneakers' release dates. They keep a whiteboard in the store showing when the new models will be arriving on the shelves. If you are looking for a specific pair of basketball sneakers in Worcester, this is probably your best bet for finding them.

I have to admit, I really enjoy checking out the local galleries around Worcester. It's neat to see contemporary art displayed proudly and know that the artists live nearby and have access to the same inspirations you do. But anyway! The Highland Artist Group is a relatively new place that houses all kinds of artists from around New England. I have to say, though, these guys really like local art. And they're way more open than other galleries, it seems. I have a friend that's a fairly talented artist and I helped convince her to submit a couple pieces. And before long there they were! I don't think they ended up selling but it was cool to see. It's always an interesting place, and the openness sure makes it feel all the more homely.
