When you picture a pool hall in your mind, that's pretty much what Elite Billiards looks like. They have lots of tables and keep them all in pretty good shape. There's no drinks, so you'll see everyone from teens to real pool sharks around. A great atmosphere for some fun games of pool, really. Very reasonable prices, too. Highly recommended.

The Tammany is one of the best hang out spots, in my opinion. You've got pool tables and dart boards, and there's usually some of both free. Even if you can't get a free spot to play, every day but Sunday they have live music that isn't half bad, either. They have off-street, free parking if you're driving. A very pleasant atmosphere.

You wouldn't really know it from the outside, or from the name, but Mechanics Hall in Worcester is a beautiful place to hear a performance. Several months ago I saw a group of choruses from the local colleges perform the Carmina Burana, and the acoustics were great. Pretty pictures and carvings on the walls, too. It was only five or ten dollars, but I guess that depends on who's performing. A wonderful atmosphere.

I have known this store for over fifteen years, and the owner is simply the friendliest guy in this type of business. If you want something and he doesn't have it, he can special order it for you, and if it's available he will get it. You can also seat down and have coffee with Roger (the owner) and even exchange ideas on comic books, philosophy, life, role playing games, music, and even food recipes. Roger is simply the friendliest guy in this type of business in all of Worcester city.

The Lucky Dog books all sorts of bands. They used to be mostly rock, but have been getting plenty of alternative and jazz in lately, which is nice. The atmosphere of course varies with the band, but it's a really nice little venue. They have a good variety of drinks, too, and prices for everything are very reasonable. Skip the big bands and support some local musicians!

Jelly's Discs has a ton of quality music CDs for good prices. Take some old CDs to trade and pick up some new tunes! Sales people more or less know their stuff, too. While you're there, be sure to stop in next door at That's Entertainment and check out their DVDs and games. Both are two of my favorite sources of entertainment and go great together.

I'm not a huge fan of Jazz, admittedly, but it's fun to watch live anyway. Especially in a place like Zara's, where people are always friendly and not all completely obsessed with the genre - not that there's anything wrong with it! Just saying you can enjoy without being a huge fan. Anyway, the drinks are pretty good, and they serve appetizers. $15 for a show is a tad on the pricey side, though.
