The Willows Lodge in Woodinville has the Northwest touch. The architecture, furnishings and the casual atmosphere puts you at ease when you walk in. You may even be greeted by the resident Bassett Hound, Gus. Rooms are minimalist modern, with Bose radio/alarm clocks, digitally controlled thermostat showers (!), and an indulgent soaker tub in the room. If you have breakfast included like we did, don't miss it. You'll have to walk across the parking lot to the Barking Frog, but it's a first-rate breakfast. On the day we breakfasted there, they had smoked salmon and seafood, bagels, cream cheese, fruit, fresh squeezed juices, pastries, etc. Wonderful!

I have to recommend the Willow Lodge in Woodinville, Washington. Far enough away from Seattle, that you will feel like you have been somewhere: close-in enough that you can get home within 30 minutes. Here are some of its many charms.
THE LODGE: Although the common spaces (lobby, lounge, library) might lean a little heavy on the log cabin motif, the guest rooms are absolutely zen. Foresty tones of mushroom and moss (the rooms in which I have luxuriated) combined with European bedding and the extra large soaking tub (for two) give the rooms an unmistakable rustic elegance. All of the rooms have balconies and most, if not all, have fireplaces (certainly worth a request). My favorite thing (strange, perhaps) is the lighting. Nothing disrupts a heavenly night sleep like fumbling for the lights at 3:00am. Unless I dreamed it, an almost imperceptibly soft cone of light over the stone sink guided my way to the loo without so much as dilating my sleepy eyes. That is a nice touch.
DINING AT THE LODGE: There are two restaurants on property--The Herbfarm Restaurant and The Barking Frog. Both offer Northwest cuisine. While I have enjoyed dining experiences at both, the Barking Frog is a far more relaxed experience (bistro feel). If you want oto explore a wine list of Northwest wines, this is the place. But even if you do not dine at the Herbfarm Restaurant, don't miss their herb garden which is on property.
THE SPA AT THE LODGE: On one such occasion I treated my husband to a hot stone massage at the spa. It was a huge hit.
BEYOND THE LODGE: Located in Woodinville, the Willows Lodge is in the heart of western Washington's wine country. Read more here http://www.woodinvillewinecountry.com/wwc.php. I'd have to think, a tour of Château St. Michelle and a romantic cheese-and-wine picnic on the grounds of the Château would serve as an excellent mood-setter.
If you are considering a stay between May and September, you might make a reservation for a hot air balloon ride. Contact Over the Rainbow at http://www.letsgoballooning.com/Seattle/seattle.html.

My guy bought a hot air balloon ride for us on my Birthday. We went to the restaurant in Woodinville where they told us to meet, at the time they told us to be there (it's a hot air balloon ride + dinner). We were never picked up. We waited and waited. Eventually the gal at the restaurant told us they'd long since gone and that we were left behind. The guy wrangling people even walked right by us, but never called out names, checked around or anything.
We called them about it. They were happy to reschedule us, and did so for 9/17/06. Yesterday we called them (at their request) to check the weather. The Flight was cancelled due to rain. The man was very nice about it and offered to re-schedule until I told him we wouldn't be able to, as we're moving out of state.
Their website specifically says: "Since we are vulnerable to weather, we don't process your payment until after the flight. So at that time you can change your payment method if you like-we even accept cash! If we should cancel for your safety, you have no further obligation."
Not so, they had already charged us. Upon request for a refund, the guy did a 180. He became incredibly rude, refused to credit us, was argumentative and said "It's not my fault you didn't show up." He made several snide, sarcastic remarks and I was FLOORED that this was a place of business.
When I questioned why he was willing to reschedule but not credit my card, he would not answer. I went on to tell him that he can't charge people for services not rendered. I asked him to please be fair with us about this and he hung up on me.
So, I've disputed it on my card and have reported them to the BBB, but I'm telling everyone I know as well, so that no one else will have to go through this.
They completely ruined what could have been a really great Birthday present.

We have had a couple of company functions at the Red Hook Brewery. First off, the tour is really interesting. I don't like beer so didn't try any but they sure served my co-workers a lot of beer of all different kinds. (The tour costs $1 but it seems as if you get tons of free beer samples, plus you get to keep your shot glass!) The food is pretty good and if you go there during nice weather, they have plenty of outdoor seating.

The Evergreen Academy, Woodinville Campus, is a great little school for getting your preschooler ready for a classroom environment. I really liked this preschool setting because it looked like a real classroom & it was pretty structured, as much as a preschool can be. The teachers were good and always communicative. Kids were taught great things & it was a great intro to a real school setting.

On short notice, we moved the entire house, and we hired Star Moving to do the job! Gotta tell you, I was seriously impressed with the crew they sent. A good group of hardworking guys who took great care of our belongings and the surroundings. The move was carefully and quickly done and they even came in under the estimated amount. They do local moves and I lucked out in finding a great company at the last minute!
