This place is Terrible with a capital T. I do not understand what all the fuss is about! You could get a breakfast of equal or better quality at Denny's, for a lot less money and a lot less time spent standing in line. I have been dragged here several times by well-meaning people, and so have tried nearly everything on the menu in a vain attempt to find something decent to eat. The pancakes were rubbery. The syrup is fake maple. The crepes were nothing special, and rather bland. The hash browns were burnt on the outside, raw on the inside, on each visit. The omelets were bland and watery. They managed to screw up French Toast...FRENCH TOAST, people! They used thin slices of regular sandwich bread instead of thick slices as most breakfast places do, and, as a result, the toast was so tough and over-cooked I could barely cut it with the knife. I will never willingly set foot in this restaurant again. Don't believe the hype! Pros: none. Cons: Horrible, overpriced food you have to wait a long time to eat.

But I love Walker Brothers! If you're in the mood for a sweet breakfast, you can't go wrong here. It can be a bit of a wait but it's well worth it, and it's a great place to bring a crowd. Once I had a truly nasty crepe there (I think it was a fluke) and I have since stuck to the pancakes and waffles--although the potato pancakes are also excellent.

There's usually a bit of a wait on the weekends but the turnover is quick. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a no frills classic breakfast place that's steps above diner food. Pros: Consistent good breakfast food Cons: Waits, but turnover is quick

Try to sneak in here anytime other than a weekend if you want the most amazing, bigger-than-your-head dutch pancakes (the puffy, volcano-like kind) you've ever had. You're already blowing the diet, so go ahead and get the apple -- you won't regret it. Only problem is this place is so popular that you just can't avoid an hour wait on the weekends (even when I got there once at 7:30am!). Recommended orders: German Pancake (Dutch Baby is the miniature version), Apple Pancake, 49ers/flapjacks, chocolate crepes. Kid-friendly. Be forewarned - it's so popular that it's usually quite busy, especially on weekends. Pros: The best pancake meals you'll have anywhere, fresh, not from mixes. Cons: Very busy/noisy on weekends and holidays.

Walker Brothers has been around for generations, and with any luck, will continue on for many more. This fabulous breakfast spot is actually open for lunch and into the evenings. Their specialty is pancakes, and the restaurant is famous for its apple pancake, which is almost like a dessert (you can take them home frozen for later, too). This beautiful restaurant has many beautiful stained glass windows, beautiful wood paneling (when paneling was not a dirty word), and excellent wait staff who will remember you upon your return. And you will...once you've eaten here.

This place is quite a drive from where I live, but I am up for the drive any time if it means getting some food from this place. The pancakes here are too die for; they are fluffy and sweet and just soo good. My favorite item here is their strawberry crepe. It is perfect. Its topped and loaded with fresh strawberries and whipped creme. I don't think any other place around Chicago can make a crepe like this place can. If you haven't been here yet, you are seriously missing out!!
