If you're looking for a place to eat in Whittier, Phlight is definitely the place. The atmosphere has a very cool and modern vibe. The food is fun to eat and share. The mac and cheese with the spanish chorizo is amazing (vegetarians can get it without chorizo). I was wary about ordering French Toast for dessert, but it was AWESOME! Great place to hang out with friends. I also highly recommend the cheese plate, paella, and blue cheese lamb burgers. I have now been a couple of times and will definitely go there again!
Pros: Hip, reasonable prices, good food
Cons: small

We had to find a place to eat in Whittier - dinner w/ the inlaws - but we didn't want to sacrifice our Santa Monica tastebuds - and thanks to City Search, we discovered Phlight. Small plates (tapas), Spanish, good beer & wine selection, service was way above average (aparantly they are nicer out that way....) - the interior was very cool, high ceilings, modern, wood, shapes, open - not crowded when we arrived (we got their at 530pm - they open at 5pm) - biz picked up as we ate and there was a nice crowd - so we felt very 'happening' in Whittier - there, I said it... we were cool in Whittier. The food was very fresh & flavorful - I had a ribeye which was thin (in a good way), topped with manchego cheese, spiced - loved it. The Meatballs were amazing (and I feel weird even uttering those words.... ) - who brags about meatballs in 2008? But I am telling you - if you eat meat - GET THE MEATBALLS - they could be entered in a meatball contest - that is how good they are.... it'd be worth it to go there just for those dang meatballs..... In fact there wasn't a weak dish on the menu - we devoured everything and kept ordering more until we were about to bust... deserts also great. So who should go here - anyone who wants a trendy/cool/delicious meal in Whittier..... that town is definitely glad Phlight is there... and from what I was told, they have been around for 3 years...... felt like it was brand new.... pricing was what you would expect for tapas - not expensive but not olive-garden either..... just go.
Pros: parking across the street, food quality, flavors, friendly staff
Cons: perhaps some beer on tap would be nice.. but I won't hold that against them - they had nice choices nevertheless...

Phlight is a tapas restaurant with a great atmosphere and good food. The room is very unique with exposed ceiling and kitchen, and though it's clean, the restaurant can get quite loud. To call it "intimate" implies quiet, but it's more hip and upbeat.
We were told by a polite hostess that sitting at the "communal table" was an option (the wait otherwise would have been 40 minutes), which the four of us agreed to. Once we were seated there wasn't any service (not even water) for about 10-15 minutes, but once we got somebody to pay attention to us, the waiter was very polite and helpful.
The food is rather good, although I wouldn't say it's amazing. Luckily, it's appropriately priced. I would recommend going with a group of 4 because it makes sharing interesting and the prices more palatable. The paella is delicious and I enjoyed the calamari, but we paid for bread and none of the drinks are refilled. Our iced tea and diet coke all came in bottles, which means each order cost us more, but the food overall came out in reasonable time with good flavors.
The place is a bit hard to find because the street is dark, but definitely worth the search!
Pros: good food, friendly staff, reasonable pricing
Cons: insufficient seating, loud music, attention lacks when busy

I absolutely love dining at Phlights. Growing up in a Spanish, from Spain home, the food is almost exactly as it was for me growing up. From the Paella, to the Chicken mole to the fabulous Sangria... It's nothing short of fantastic. The service is one on one and very personal as it allows for intimate dining as well as small parties to enjoy themselves. Yes the restuarant is small and become "full" quickly, however its such a nice change to the chain of "fine" dining available just a couple blocks away. I have not had an evening of anything short of excellent on the many occasions that I have chosen Phlights as my choice for dinner and doubt that will ever be. I encourage anyone who has not been to go and enjoy the same experience as I have.
Pros: Intimate dining and great food!
Cons: parking

I LOVE this restaurant. I also love tapas and have been to many tapas restaurants but this is definitely my favorite. . This is a beautiful but small small space with an open kitchen, local artwork and romantic lighting. The menu is short but varied with meat, vegetable and seafood dishes and changes seasonally. The food is delicious, I have sampled almost every dish and never been disappointed. Try staples like the mussels, tempura tomatoes, albondigas and sweet potato fries. There is a good wine list as well. It was started by two Whittier College graduates so it is locally owned which I love to support! It is good to make reservations since it is a fairly small restaurant, especially for big parties or on the weekends.
Pros: Delicious Tapas Dishes, nice ambience, helpful staff, good wines
Cons: small restaurant, need reservations

A friend recommended Phlight. She said they offered a variety of Tapas and overall the prices were reasonable. Based on reviews from various websites, reviewers had recommended making reservations. A recording advised me to leave my reservation request. Later that afternoon, I received a call confirming my reservation for the following evening.
When we arrived there was a group waiting to be seated. In the meantime, 2 girls pushed their way through and requested to be seated. A waiter seated them at the bar. The group that had been waiting advised the waiter they had reservations for 7 at 8P. They were seated. When our turn came, we advised that we had reservations for 4 at 8P. The waiter lead us to a table for 4. As my girlfriend and I sat down, the manager came over and told us that the table was reserved for a group and were told to get up and wait for another table Needless to say, my husband was upset at the way we were told to get up. When the waiter commented to Daniel, the manager, that the customer was upset, his response was too bad he can get as mad as he wants, I don't care. We spoke to Daniel and explained that we had a reservation at 8P. He advised that the table was reserved for a group that had reservations at 8:30P. I inquired why they had confirmed our reservation if they were unable to accommodate us especially since there was a table for 4 sitting empty. His response was that he was not the one who called and confirmed the reservation. This did not make any sense. My friend (a manager of another restaurant) inquired about seating allocation and reservations. Daniel's rudely responsed that he was too busy and he didn't have a table for us. He then turned around and walked away. Needless to say we decided not to dine at this establishment and will spread the word about the rude customer service. As the saying goes, word of mouth is the best type of advertisment.
Pros: NONE
Cons: Poor customer service
