What a delight! This restored theater (which once played host to vaudeville acts!) is how you imagine movie palaces were in the earlier part of the last century -- beautiful, ornate decor, exotic lighting. it's like stepping back in time.
They show first run movies, and the prices are reasonable (not something you can say about your local mega-plex, huh?)

If you want to see a first-run movie in an old fashioned movie theater, you can't beat the Hoosier in Whiting, IN. Only one movie plays a week, but if that's the one you want to see, it sure beats driving in traffic for a half hour to Schereville. The movie snacks are priced well. This theater is very community oriented. When I worked at the local elementary school, we all went to see the Polar Express there. However, it is also very friendly to out-of-towners. Don't miss out on this unique movie goer's experience!

Hoosier Theater has a very nice - old time - renovated theater. You get the feeling of walking back into time a bit but with all the modern conveniences. Cheaper then going to a major chain theater and they have movies not too long after they've been released. Nice home town feeling in downtown Whiting and the theater fits in perfectly
