This park is relatively small, but plenty of do to keep the family occupied for an afternoon. Kids love the pool with it's big, winding slide. Be sure to take plenty of quarters since the kids won't want to leave the arcade. There's also a pretty decent sized playground that you'll be dragging the kids from. Don't forget the miniature golf and also paddle boating out on the lake. There's golf and tennis and plenty of picnic tables if you want to pack a lunch or have a little family reunion. And don't leave the house without bagging up any old bread, crackers or popcorn to feed the ducks. In the winter don't forget ice skating.

This is a smaller sized, but it’s perfect for the kids. There is plenty to see and do for the smaller children and the older ones will love the big animals (the buffalo) and theatre. The little ones will love the trains and trails and petting zoo. The Christmas lights, in my opinion, are the main attraction though. They run from about Thanksgiving through New Years (give or take a few weeks) and are always breathtaking. Expect lines, but even a wait is okay when you have so many things to see. Olgebay is a great asset for Wheeling and the residents of the Ohio Valley.

It's definitely not Vegas, but if you have an itch to gamble it's a good distraction. They have aisles and aisles of slot machines, MANY different themes to choose from and range from nickel slots on up. They also have the dog track if the slots aren't your thing or you just need to get away from all the dinging noises. They have a couple restaurants to choose from. For those who are into Bingo, they've also got that - a little pricier than most places from what I understand, but also better payout if you win. They even have the occasional concert or fight.

Elm Grove Lanes is a pretty old but very well maintained bowling center. Their lanes are kept up quite well and they have a nice selection of bowling balls on hand. They have a nice snack bar with refreshments on site and they also carry a license to sell beer as well. I have been bowling there several times and all the employees are very friendly and helpful. There is a huge parking lot right in front.

The Capitol Music hall is a historic building in downtown Wheeling. It offers a wide range of entertainment options to pass the time. Mostly country and bluegrass music, you can still find rock, rap, and touring productions of Broadway hits from time to time. It also hosts dance recitals every spring. It's a great old theater, approaching the 100 year mark, and makes for a great atmosphere to enjoy all these shows.

The only place to find rock in the valley, Eagle plays a great mix of old and new. Tuning in you can also find out what's going on in the valley, what's going on in local sports, and a whole lot more. You can catch the occasional live broadcast of sports, as well as local broadcasts of NASCAR if you're into that. They also have a good many contests getting you into shows, getting you cash, and who knows what all else.

If you're into the Top 40 hits, this is the station for you. One Top 40 hit after another, all day long. You can tune in and always know that your current Top 40 favorites will be played shortly. You can also keep up with things going on locally, and even get in on some contests and giveaways. If you're not into the Top 40 or its repetitiveness, this probably won't be the station for you - but for the MTV crowd, there's no other station that caters so well.

While it doesn't compare to larger zoos, the Good Zoo is a great little distraction for the little ones for an afternoon. Kids can easily spend hours wandering from exhibit to exhibit watching the animals that one normally wouldn't associate with Wheeling WV. Even the animals you would associate, the kids love being up close. Feeding the deer is always a treat for the kids, and most would be happy just staying at the barn and feeding the goats or watching the new baby donkey. It's not very justifiable to drive back and forth to Pittsburgh, Cleveland or Columbus all the time for their zoos, so having this small zoo in our 'backyard' is a nice way to spend the afternoon.

While Nailers hockey in no way compares to the like of NHL hockey, it's a decent distraction in a city that often doesn't leave a lot to offer as distraction. Tickets are pretty cheap which is good when trying to budget entertainment for a whole family. It's also a cheap, safe night out for older kids and teens. They're always offering lots of promotions so be sure to check the promotions schedule and you might walk away with some freebies. So while the pace and excitement comes nowhere near NHL hockey, it's better than nothing.
