I would like to thank this lady. She had a really artistic Feather and Fan blanket in the window, I went in and asked about it, she could tell I was a tourist and assured me it was not hard. Here she said, and Sold me a Pattern! I took it home, went on a Knitting retreat for prayer shawls ( A Hug from God) and launched out on my own work of art. I got the holes wrong the first attempt, but I completed a 7 foot long feather and fan sea- scape. One proud and thankful customer signing off!

Excellent, authentic sushi restaurant with Japanese owner (Hidemi-san) and outstanding chef (Ito-san) (most sushi restaurants these days are not Japanese!). Excellent sushi, both traditional and creative. The prices are reasonable. We like their special sake's, too, like onikoroshi. The decor is traditional sushi restaurant style, with beautiful prints and samurai armor. Sometimes it is a bit slow if they are crowded, but it is worth the wait. It's family-friendly, and we discovered that many families have been coming there for years. I spend a lot of time in Japan, and this place really captures the quality and friendly atmosphere.
Pros: Excellent food and atmosphere. Parking across the street. Easy access to Mass Pike

We go to Comella's for takeout pretty often and recommend it to anyone living in the area- it's delicious, homemade, and affordable. We order from there anytime we are in the mood for Italian and don't want to cook.
Pros: Great food/ value

Comella's is a hidden gem in West Newton as far as restaurants that serve Italian cuisine go. They serve excellent food with great service. They are best known for their dishes called "mess", which combine pasta, cheese, sauce, eggplant, meat and other secret ingredients. They are so delicious, but the owner will never give away the recipe. This keeps the patrons always coming back for more. The mess comes in all sizes, from small serving portions to half buckets. This is a fun dining experience!

Harris Cyclery in Newton was integral to my successful completion of the Pan Mass Challenge. They assembled a new bike for me, tweaked it after a few initial rides, provisioned me with every accessory and piece of clothing I needed, and did it fast and affordably, all while adding a discount for me as a PMC rider. I also learned a ton through conversations with Jon and Loddy.

I love Paddy O's. It's a neighborhood restaurant that serves up great food, great atmosphere, and plenty of Irish beers. Paddy O's is one of those places you go to when you crave shepherd's pie and a tall glass of Guinness. It always seems like a warm and welcoming place. The interior is filled with dark mahogany and has a bar that seats about 12. The place always has a lot of business, but I have never had to wait longer than 15 minutes for a table. Parking can be a problem because West Newton only has a couple parking lots for all of the many businesses in the town. One day, I drank a Guinness a little too quickly and when the Irish server appeared, she asked me if there was a hole in the bottom of my glass and quickly got me another glass full of beer. All that being said, the crowd is mostly older and they do not over-serve anybody. The food is great! I have never had a bad experience here. All of the food has fairly large portions and the price is in the $8-$15 range. Paddy O's is also a great place to go to for St. Patrick's Day. My wife and I got to hear a live bagpipe play while we ate our food. The fish and chips, the chicken pot pie (served in freshly baked bread), and shepherd's pie is all highly recommended.
