Although this place is not very big, there are some really neat displays of insects and invertabrates such as sea stars and horseshoe crabs. The highlight is the large greenhouse filled with "free range" butterflies. This place is also reasonably priced for a family membership. However it is very popular for school field trips so a call ahead would be useful.

Adventure Golf has three different courses to choose from. They are all fun, but I like the one with the huge Aztec Indian that spits out fire when you make the ball go on the right path. This golf course it creative and fun and is great with or even without the kids! It is a cheap thrill for $4.95 for in district rates. They just completed the raceway right across the parking lot which also looks like fun. They do Birthday parties too.

The golf courses at Hyland Hills are some of the prettiest in the area. Their landscaping is so very well done in the summer time that it' like a mini-visit to a botanic garden. The courses are a delight to stroll over even if you are not a golfer. Their restaurant is just okay--I wouldn't rave over the food, but it is a pleasant place to sit outside and have a drink after your round or while you are waiting to be called. Their par 3 course is tons of fun for beginners and it's a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on a summer evening.

As a former couch-potato, let me tell you that anyplace that can motivate ME to work out is worth its weight in gold! I began using the Westminster Rec Center's facility in 2003 when I joined Weight watchers. The first few visits were pitiful, to say the least, but I finally enlisted the help of one of their personal trainers. She helped me learn to use all of the machines properly and she didn't make me feel like a total klutz while I was doing so. The workout room is clean and bright and recently enlarged. I like that they have sign-up sheets for the busier machines so everyone gets a turn and they have 6 or 7 treadmills--a good thing since everyone likes to use those. My favorite machine was their elliptical and I used it faithfully. Tons of free weights, too, gave me a variety.
Their locker rooms and showers are quite clean and roomy. Their pool is large, but could use few more lap lanes.
Surprising enough, The Westminster Rec Center is also a great place to host a wedding. With a large room on second floor (away form the kids in their bathing suits) you can bring in your own caterer, and entertain your guests on the patio overlooking the lights of Westminster and Broomfield.

If you need an change of pace for entertainment and want to get a little workout as well, go bowling! This bowling alley is really nice, as they just did some remodeling. They are extremely family friendly and offer great group deals! It is still a typical bowling alley, as it reeks of smoke, but if you go during the day, it isn't too bad!

You can rent so many party supplies, such as a helium machine for all those balloons! It is a blast just to go in there and look around, especially if you need ideas for a party!
