nice selection of entrees, side dishes, soups, salads and desserts
Heat-and-eat dishes include ratatouille, stuffed shells, lasagna and other pastas, stuffed cabbage, sausage and peppers, chicken, stuffed portobello mushrooms, garlic-mashed and au gratin potatoes and much more.
choices here can be overwhelming. The staff is helpful, though, and there is even a dietitian available to assist those with special dietary needs.

Unfortunately, War & Pieces has gone out of business, thanks to a greedy landlord that jacked up rents so high as to eliminate any small margin of profit they made. War & Pieces was in business for nearly 40 years, and was a wonderful hobby shop for the model builder, rocketry buff and collector. The staff as always helpful and knowledgable because they participated in the hobby and loved it. THEY WILL BE MISSED!
War & pieces was struggling against the forces of higher rents, lower margins and discount internet hobby shops...but they were making it until this latest landlord came through. Its a real shame!

Effie's place is a good place to go for cheap, simple food. I usually feel like the youngest one in there, because I am always the youngest. A little creepy having the family portraits on the wall but great desserts. The Chef's Salad is a great deal with tons of meat and fixings. The brunch is to die for but usually very busy. Service can be a bit slow but they are very friendly. A small local place is usually better than a chain restaurant so go there.

More
I have belonged to many gyms in CT over the past few years, and Bally's in West Hartford is by far the absolute filthiest gym I have ever seen. At times, ill-maintained machines have left actual grime on my hands. There is visible dirt on the floors, walls, and equipment. This cannot be blamed entirely on the members, for it is the staff that is responsible for picking up after the hundreds of valued members that pay to exercise in a clean, hospitable environment. The filth is a major detraction - it is a discouraging place to play around in (ie - different routines, lying on mats and aerobic balls, etc) because of the unavoidable filth-factor. I have appraoched the staff regarding issues of sanitation, and I was directed to the management; one manager simply looked at me and agreed yes, that's not good... when I SHOWED HIM the accumulated sludge that was on my hands by the end of an hour-long workout. Improvements were not promised, and certainly were not delivered. Other than cleanliness, Bally's is not worth a $16/mo membership because the machines are ancient and unsafe. Free weights are not lined in rubber, and are so old that they are practically rusting. Machines are constantly broken, and the staff put up out of order signs as a pretense/promise of repairs. Aside from the machines being sometimes inoperable, they are just plain old. Equipment at small places like Cardio Express is much more impressive. LA Fitness is by far the most superior gym in the area, and although I pay $37/mo and drive from West Hartford to S. Windsor to work out there, it is worth the commute and money because Bally's simply does not inspire..Please, please, please take heed - if you value your HEALTH (no exaggeration), Bally's is not the place for you.

I purchased my wedding invitations from Larry at the Greeting Shoppe. He was extremely helpful and the nicest guy in the world. I would absolutely recommend the Greeting Shoppe to anyone looking for invitations for a wedding or another formal event. All I can say is that I had an awesome experience at the Greeting Shoppe and I hope that you can do business with Larry as well.
Pros: Exceptional customer service
Cons: If you know West Hartford, you know that parking is tough for every store on the strip, but it is definitely worth it.

Quaker Diner is literally some of the best breakfast food available in West Hartford. I almost died.
We had a three cheese omelette with toast and potatoes, and it was incredibly delicious.
The Belgian Waffles (available on the weekends) are also a great choice, with blueberry or raspberry topping. GET WHIPPED CREAM, even if you're on a diet. Forget about it for 5 minutes and be in waffle heaven!!
Pros: Best food ever, great atmosphere, awesome old building with sweet antique stuff
Cons: NOTHING

You can't find a better pool. The water is amazing--the cleanest and purest I've ever found, and I've swam in pools all over the world. And the variety of programs is unbelievable--have you heard of aqua-spinning, on underwater bikes? It's an incredible workout, and so far I've only seen it at Cornerstone.
The place is incredibly clean, from the locker rooms to the decks to the crystal-clear water.

I've had exactly the same experience as the other reviewer. I've been going there since 1992, and I bring all my friends there. In fact, my first date with my wife was there as was our rehersal dinner in June of 2000. The only difference I have with the first reviewer is that my wife is the veggitarian and I am the meat eater. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that others are supporting this wonderful restaurant.
