This restaurant was designed to please people who enjoy Asian food, great jazz, and an occasional dance, as well as those who want to eat out without putting on airs. Yes, you can wear your jeans, your tux or your business suit. You can order Chinese or Japanese, whichever is your pleasure. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The Chinese entrees are flavorful and the serving sizes are healthy. Here's the thing... if you want to hear jazz, it is one of the two premier jazz venues in the Greater Hartford area.

Let me preface this and all other reviews that I am a SoCal transplant, so my opinion as it relates to sushi outside of California is going to be a bit hard to impress. Bottom line, I found my experience at Szechuan Tokyo, "tolerable". The rice was dry and almost crunchy, the fish was "normal" nothing unique in the preperation, the wasabe was extremely spicy (which I happen to enjoy), but overwhelms the overall sensation of the fish (which may be a good thing in this case); our waiter could not speak or understand english and it took us many times to clarify our order; he took my chopsticks on two seperate occasions, forcing me to ask for new ones, and my water was always empty. The sushi itself was like I said just normal, not bad, not good, just edible. The ambiance was crap! Pros: good parking, plenty of seats, no wait time Cons: dry rice, poor service, average food

We've been attending Szechuan Tokyo's regular jazz performances for quite some time now. The food is good, plentiful and reasonably priced. Service can be slow; occasionally, during a rush we'll go to the bar and get our own cocktails (much to the consternation of the servers; be careful or they'll charge you for them). Otherwise this eclectic mixture of Chinese and Japanese is a delight. The owner's an American, and really sweet. He seems genuinely interested that everything be as good as it can be for his customers. We're going back over and over. Pros: Good Food, Huge Drinks, Good Value Cons: Slow Service, Must make reservation, brightly lit at times

Found many Asian families there on a Saturday evening. Service was slow but we eventually got our orders. We were not accustomed to waiting 30 minutes for our entire order in a Chinese restaurant. Cocktails were enormous... they made the wait go by more easily. On other nights of the week this restaurant offers live music, mostly jazz. It's very pleasant and the owners seem to genuinely care about your experience (they're there all the time). BTW, the sushi portions are large and the price cannot be beat! An excellent value! Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Free Parking Cons: Service Slow

Went there with family for lunch. Waiter seated us, then ignored us for 20 minutes (restaurant was not busy). We had to call another waiter to request the menu....then to request water....then to request water be refilled.....twice. My mom decided to give $3 for a $47 meal. Waiter challenged the amount publically, demanding 15% for his non-service. Was regular at this restaurant. Not anymore.
