I've had exactly the same experience as the other reviewer. I've been going there since 1992, and I bring all my friends there. In fact, my first date with my wife was there as was our rehersal dinner in June of 2000. The only difference I have with the first reviewer is that my wife is the veggitarian and I am the meat eater. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that others are supporting this wonderful restaurant.

We found South main Pizza to be one of our favorite pizza restaurants in CT. Many times we would stop and pick up a pizza to bring home.
They were always very good about making sure our special orders were to our liking.
The service is good. Prices are great too!

It looks like a hole in the wall but don't let appearances fool you. The food is fantastic --everytime! It's bargain priced and you'll be planning your next trip back while you're still finishing your meal. Elegant cuisine with absolutely no frills. Get the Vietnamese ravioli appetizer and the Vietnamese iced coffee too... heavenly! The staff is friendly and on the ball. They have take-out too, but it's best to eat it there right when it comes out of the kitchen.
Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, Consistent Service
Cons: No Atmosphere

This little spot, a diner car, has a great menu. It is open for breakfast, lunch and diner. I have eaten there for all three meals, and was very happy with the quality and quantity of food served. They serve American, Vietnamese, Thai based dishes. My favorite meal is Pho with beef. The broth is flavorful, and the beef is seasoned just right, all I have to do is add the chili sauce to my need for heat that day. I noticed that they do a brisk lunch take out, and those picking up must be regulars. The prices are very reasonable, plan on $4-8 for breakfast, $7-12 for lunch, and $15-25 for dinner.
If you are looking for a little hole in the wall place, with great food, try this place, you will be happy.

As a former chef I look for very specific things in a restaurant. I want the flavors to be clean, not overpowering, the food to be properly cooked, & the service to be helpful & polite.
This lovely little restaurant is an absolute must for Thai food lovers, or really anyone. It is spotless, intimate, & very beautiful inside.
Siam has a lovely "energy" to it, an intangible I always look for. Our waitress was completely charming & attentive. I always ask the wait-staff for suggestions the first time at a restaurant. "What do YOU like? What's REALLY good here?". Usually the wait-staff is the best authority on what?s really good, I?ve found. You just gotta ask.
The Thai beer was great. My vegetarian wife loves Thai food; it gives her plenty of options. Appetizers we shared were spring rolls (excellent & NOT a bit greasy), vegetable soup, full of perfectly cooked veggies & superb flavors, as well as a salad appetizer with Siam?s rendition of the traditional peanut sauce on the side. Absolutely perfect. It was so good we saved some to use on the rest of our meal.
My wife had Pad Si-Eow (a Thai stirfry), which our waitress was happy to add tofu to. My wife wasn?t bowled over, but I thought it was quite good. My waitress recommended a spicy Thai Chicken (can?t remember the name), which I asked to be made not so spicy. Absolutely fabulous... the chicken melted in my mouth & the flavors were clean & excellent. I ate every bite. I rarely do.
The menu has tons of choices, good prices, PLUS a $5.99 lunch w/choice of almost everything on the dinner menu! My wife hates blowing $10 on a bad sandwich & soda, which is all she can get near her old office. She just opened in West Hartford, & she's excited about coming to Siam for lunch.
My chef-sense tells me whatever you order, you'll be pleased. But you HAVE to try something with peanut sauce, they make one of the best I've ever had.
Pros: Just about everything: ambience, food, service, value
Cons: none

I've lived in Hartford for over 30 years. I've passed by this establishment more times than you can count. I've gone to Dunkin Donuts EVERY morning for the past 8 years and fill my gas up at the Shell station across the street. There is was, this whole time right beneath my nose and I was always magnetically drawn to the big chains. They say the gras is greener on the other side of the fence. I say the food is better outside the big chain restaurants.
I first visited Dino's while I was on my way home from shopping and didn't feel like driving all the way out to one of the big Italian chains. Was I settling? No, because I didn't know what the food was like. It was more of a convenient factor. Since that first visit, that's the place I get my Italian food. And I recommend you give it a try because you will not be let down. Huge quantities. Low prices. Smiling faces. Family establishment. Freshest foods.
