If you need specialty produce (like ethnic produce such as Chinese vegetables and exotic fruits), this is the place to go. The parking lot is extremely frustrating, but the goods make up for it. They have fresh made pastas, really yummy and reasonably priced pastries, a small but good quality prepared foods section, and the best produce department I know of in the state. During the appropriate seasons, they also have a reasonably priced and fairly well stocked plant and flower nursery. They carry some dairy items (cheeses in particular) that are hard to find elsewhere, but the prices on these are a bit high. They have the best price on fresh figs in the area (half the price of Whole Foods) during their short season in August. They don't have a huge selection of dry foods, but they do have pastas and other goodies.

Sure, they have all kinds of sweets and baked Middle Eastern treats, but Severn is so much more than a bakery. They have a wide variety of products imported from many different countries. There's olive oil from all over, lots of different spices (at excellent prices), nuts, canned and dry goods, and a good assortment of cheeses. I was thrilled to find Bulgarian Kashkaval Cheese (which I've had in its Italian and Romanian varieties) and also feta and other types of fresh or semisoft cheeses from many different places. The shop is pretty large, so it can take a while to look around. The neighborhood has other bakeries and shops, so it's a fun area to explore, and street parking isn't too much of a problem.

Great small Middle Eastern grocery store. Full of all the items you might need, baked goods, bread, hummus, fruit, veggies. Bake fresh pastries every day, including lahm bil ajeen, zatar, and muhammarra. I tried the lahm bil ajeen and it was ok, not very flavorful. They have the best and freshest persian bread. Yum!

Russo’s is one of the best places in town to get fruits and veggies, as well as fresh cheeses, breads, and olives. It is a HUGE warehouse of produce, and full of things from every corner of the globe. Have you been searching for bitter melon or yucca? You can find them here! Their olive selection is phenomenal and they have a vast array of other goodies.
The produce is incredibly fresh and really very inexpensive. Red peppers are occasionally on sale for less than half what you’d spend a chain store.
While it is somewhat of a long drive from where I live, it is worth the trek every time. They have some really hard to find items and always have helpful and knowledgeable staff.
