I have been restoring my Boston townhouse for a number of years, and as a result, I have had interactions with most of the granite and marble tile and slab dealers in the area, including most of the stores in Watertown. United Tile America is clearly the hands down winner in service, selection and price.
The store is very laid back, and you can just look around without being hassled by the high-pressure salespeople that you will find at the other Watertown tile stores. The staff, particularly Kristen, the showroom manager, is very knowledgable, and is very helpful in not only assisting in picking out the appropriate tile, but also can help with design issues.
I have sent many people to the store, and would go nowhere else for tile needs. Their installation is also top-notch, and their workers are highly skilled. They have done two projects for me, and are working on a third now.
United Tile also has a great, separate location with "remnants" from kitchen counter installations and the like, where one can find partial granite and marble slabs that are very discounted, and are great for smaller projects.
A great store!

Arsenal Street is "Tile Row," with several places along the same street. Roma Tile is sort of the mid-priced/mid-style place (not the fanciest/most expensive, but also not the no frills/cheapest). It's a little frustrating that the prices aren't always on the samples, so you have to ask. They also have a set up where you have to be assigned to a representative, which is kind of a pain. Some stuff has to be ordered, but they do usually get it pretty quickly, and they also have a lot of things in stock. It's a little annoying to have to drive down the street to pick things up at the warehouse, but it's not too bad. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, and they let you take home samples. They carry a large variety of items in all price ranges, so you're sure to find something suitable.

This place is right on the Newton/Watertown line and is convenient to all the Watertown Square buses. As the name suggests, they carry only flooring: carpet, tile, hardwood, hardwood substitutes. The staff here is really great and friendly. They're happy to lend you samples to take home, to give you pricing information, and to answer your questions (like helping you decide between different surfaces). It's a good place to go if you're still undecided about your flooring options or if you want to get more than one type of thing. The prices are competitive with other stores in the area. The store isn't fancy, so this isn't like the tile places with all their pretty displays. This is where you can get down to business with no fuss.
