The National Zoo is located in Washington, DC. This is a first class zoo and what makes it even better is that it is free to visit it. Lambda Rising is a great little bookstore in Dupont Circle, with a focus on the gay and lesbian community. Besides a multitude of books, they carry a good selection of other stuff, including dvds, cds, magazines and novelty gift items. The staff is very friendly, helpful and always seem to be having a good time. I'm not too familiar with this aspect, but it's my understanding that the store does a lot of community outreach, too.

This moderately priced restaurant in Dupont Circle manages to do several things well...particularly the curries, and martinis. The food is spicy and fresh, and the atmosphere is great. Entrées are generally in the $10 range, and the menu is varied enough that you'll probably be able to find something you'll like, no matter your taste. And although Raku is pretty popular, you'll rarely have to wait more than 5 minutes for a seat. Outdoor seating is available in the warmer weather. One word of warning...parking is scarce in this neighborhood (and if you live in DC, you're well aware of this). Try to take the Red Line metro to Dupont Circle, which is just a block away. Highly recommended.

The Air and Space Museum is one of the best in DC! There are many hands on activites that both children and adults enjoy. The area where the retired space shuttle and rockets is amazing! There is also a life size control center for a aircraft carrier that you can explore and push buttons. This museum will take quite a while to get through so if you want to see everything it has to offer you should plan to stay the whole day.

For pampering, check out The Oriental Oasis (1 Thomas Circle, NW). I *love* this place and have been mani'd, pedi'd waxed, plucked, rubbed and buffed there for nearly 15 years. Not only is the spa peaceful and really pretty, but the staff has been consistent for years. They take groups, have spa packages and, in a pinch, will even take a walk-in appointment...cheerfully! They've recently added two hours validated parking at the garage next door too.
It's not quite the Georgetown location you were hoping for, but it's SO worth the trip! For more details, go to: www.theorientaloasis.com. Enjoy!

Anytime I go to Washington, especially with a group, the Marrakesh is a must-visit. They are very accommodating, even for groups of forty, with prior reservations.
The prix fixe menu is excellent - the seven courses include the most amazing lemon chicken known to man (it falls off the bones, and I've sat with people poking between the bones trying to find just one more succulent bite). I'm not a fan of the minty tea at the end (tastes like my toothpaste) but I have friends who gladly take it off my hands).
As with many such restaurants, soft drink refills (on those small, small glasses) are not free. Stick with water as your base beverage.

I recently spent a weekend in Washington, DC and was lucky enough to be introduced to Old Glory by a friend. Old Glory is located in the heart of Georgetown and has some very tasty BBQ! The menu had a fine selection from chicken to ribs and everything in between. What was a lot of fun was testing the different BBQ sauces. On each table there are about six different kinds to try and everyone could find one to fit their tastes. The corn bread and biscuits were great too.
Be prepared to wait when you get here, it was crowded. And my only complaint was that the air conditioning did not work well and it was a bit warm.
