For a day of pampering yourself, head to Piaf. Be sure to schedule an appointment because walk-ins are unlikely to find some time in their packed schedule. It’s busy because it’s the best. Their specialists are professional and friendly. They know just how you like to be spoiled. Again, though, you will have to accept being turned away without an appointment. Also, it’s pretty expensive, making it good for special occasions and not for your everyday needs.

For pampering, check out The Oriental Oasis (1 Thomas Circle, NW). I *love* this place and have been mani'd, pedi'd waxed, plucked, rubbed and buffed there for nearly 15 years. Not only is the spa peaceful and really pretty, but the staff has been consistent for years. They take groups, have spa packages and, in a pinch, will even take a walk-in appointment...cheerfully! They've recently added two hours validated parking at the garage next door too.

Just moving to the area my first order of business after getting settled in was to find a good spot for my regular manicure and pedicures. Did a local search and there you were "judysbook reviews". I followed up on a few review of www.joysnails.com and to my delight the place was everything I'd hoped for. The atmosphere reminded me a bit of Hawaii and that was a nice start to a very good experience. The conversation was as plesant as the signature mani/pedi I got. When they advertise "Family owned and operated, they were'nt kidding, while I was there the grandson stopped by with his mommy for a visit with Joy! I've fallin in love with this place already. If went and tried Linda Bui (my sis has been going to her for years), she is super , does great highlights, for the first time in DC (other cities seem to know more what I want) she actually did what I asked and gave me dark gold highlights with chestnut lowlights. Everywhere else (and I mean super expensive salons) no matter what I asked for (brown reddish etc), I always ended up with whitish blonde highlights. they always bleached my hair (unless you want to go blondish only lazy hairstylists use bleach for highlights and then cover their mistake with color or toner) . She also does super super nice layered cuts.

I have been going to Shohreh since 1999. Shohreh has always done a wonderful job on my skin. As for the comments on skin care products, what provider of services doesn't push their products? The Greenbriar does it. Why would a small business owner be any different. I do request Shohreh for my services as I know the quality will be top notch.

I would recommend Bogart's Hair Salon in Georgetown as terrific for all kinds of hair. The stylists aren't pretentious and won't overwhelm you with a hairstyle that isn't right for you. It costs more than cheapo places like Supercuts, but it's less expensive than the more pretentious big-name salons. Three family members with three different kinds of hair from straight to kinky to wavy all go there, and none of us have ever been disappointed.

I have had both a facial and massage at Lillian Lawrence. The facial was very relaxing and my face was glowing and radiant. The service provider was a bit pushy about buying products and made some comments about my skin. But she gave me an excellant face massage and took her time with the facial. Massages are a treat at Lillian Lawrence - first you go in a hot shower to lossen up the muscles and then you get a wonderful deep massage.

I am a huge advocate for stress-relief. A couple of months ago, I went to The Stress Free Zone since the name appealed to me. The outside was very nice and attractive. Inside though, everything did not seem as nice as it had been on the exterior. I felt guilty just leaving, so I went and got a massage. However, the massage was not at all stree-free and in fact gave me pain in my lower back the next day.
