P&P is one of if not THE best independent bookstores in D.C. With two floors of books, there is tons to rummage through in this place. They have all the new releases and fad books that the chain stores that start with B have, but so much more. They have a lot more of the independent writings, as well as some of the smaller literary magazines that you can only find on college campuses. There is an adorable children's section and a coffee shop with tasty treats. There are monthly book clubs for the interested. But best of all for any avid reader, PP is a frequent stop for all kinds of authors on book tours or just in the neighborhood.

I am writing this review for the DC Second Story because unfortunately the one in Bethesda was forced to close. Anyway, Second Story has great prices and a unique, eclectic, excellent selection of famous and obscure books. This applies to records as well. The staff is composed of helpful book lovers. This is a local establishment, and you'd do well to stop by.

This store has very unique novelty gifts and cards you wouldn't find in your mall. You can find great gifts for a co-worker. My only complaint: Some of thier items are a little pricey but I guess they are worth it cause you won't see it anywhere else.

Secondi is a great place to find some elegant (for lack of a better word) clothes at incredibly affordable prices. The staff is nice and helpful, but they give you your space while you browse. And be sure to do plenty of browsing; there's tons of finds in here. That would be my only complaint: with so much to look through, you need to set aside a lot of time to enjoy it!

Lambda Rising is a great little bookstore in Dupont Circle, with a focus on the gay and lesbian community. Besides a multitude of books, they carry a good selection of other stuff, including dvds, cds, magazines and novelty gift items. The staff is very friendly, helpful and always seem to be having a good time. I'm not too familiar with this aspect, but it's my understanding that the store does a lot of community outreach, too.

This great bike shop in Adams Morgan is my favorite biking store in Washington DC. If you are a professional or a novice this is the best place because of the amazing selection and knowledge of their employees. This store doesn’t only sell bikes, if you are need any accessories they are fully loaded.

We found Tiny Jewel Box when my now husband and I were searching for our wedding bands. We visited many jewelers in the DC area and didn't find quite the right jewelery and/or atmosphere. Tiny Jewel Box is nestled on Connecticut Avenue and offers the nicest selection of rings and their packaging and presentation is unbeatable. The prices are on par with the other stores but the service and local nature of the business made this store very attractive to us.

One of my favorite places in DC! It's a combination cafe, bar and independent bookstore. Unlike some cafe/bookshops, the food is creatively prepared and delicious. Check out the basil shrimp pasta and the incredibly decadent brownie sundae. The crowd tends to be a friendly mix of young and old, heavy on locals and yuppies with many reading their new purchases over a class of wine on the outdoor patio.
