I am writing this review for the DC Second Story because unfortunately the one in Bethesda was forced to close. Anyway, Second Story has great prices and a unique, eclectic, excellent selection of famous and obscure books. This applies to records as well. The staff is composed of helpful book lovers. This is a local establishment, and you'd do well to stop by.

When I first moved to Dupont Circle 8 years ago, there were 3 music shops within one block in Dupont Circle. Now two of the three have been replaced by retail clothing stores, but fortunately one still stands. And probably for good reason: it was always a notch above the others in terms of quality and variety. The store has music from around the world and tends to cater toward that random record that you wouldn't necessarily be able to find at Best Buy, or wherever it is that people shop for music nowadays.

Pleasure place is essentially an X-rated store, with all kinds of sexual aids and erotic leather clothing. In my opinion, it's a good place for a gag gift for a friend who wouldn't take it too seriously, but then again, some people probably buy the things here for serious use. In any case, it's fun to visit just for a laugh, and it's funny that its so exposed in Dupont Circle.

CD Game Exchange is a small little storefront right near the American University metro stop that sells all varieties of used and new CD's DVD's and video games. They even sell old VHS cassettes, usually for about $2 so if you are looking to watch an old movie for cheap this is a good place to find it (cheaper than most video stores). I've found the prices and selection to be very good here.

Smash Records in Georgetown is a great store for any music enthusiast who enjoys alternative rock and punk. They have a wide selection of vinyl records and rare cds. You can also find some music related posters, live concert dvds, and t-shirts. The staff is very knowledgeable to if you need some help they are a great source of information. I highly recommend this gem in Georgetown.

This store is small and a bit cramped, but if you're a musician-type it will probably be heaven to you. I actually ventured in here because my little sister begged me to buy her a harmonica for her birthday. This place was awesome in terms of service. They took out a variety of models, encouraged me to handle them, and didn't pressure me to buy the most expensive one. In the end, my sister was thrilled with her present, and I'll know where to take her next time she comes to town.

Do you have used cds to sell? Do you have the patience to browse through some used cds to get a good price? CD Warehouse has been serving the Georgetown area with some of the newest and best used music. The layout of the store isn't the easiest to understand and it's worth browsing through different categories since they're not always filed correctly. They have an excellent selection of imports which line their back wall. Here you can find the latest Buddha Bar cd or other top DJs. They are usually pretty good with their purchase of your used cds and offer you either cash or store credit. I have found many gems in my music collection here since there are many Georgetown student who use this store and sell their old music.

This Tower Records store is gigantic. It is located near George Washing University on Pennsylvania Avenue. This place has everything but it is sometimes hard to locate what you want because the sales associates are usually busy with one of the many customers that are always in the store. Other than it sometimes being difficult to get in and out of this store quickly, this place is great.

I love Video 2000. It's a small neighborhood spot that makes no attempt to go up against Blockbuster because it's a completely different kind of place. The prices are great and the guy who runs Video 2000 is pretty popular among neighborhood people, who like to hang out here. And while Video 2000 might appear small and a little disorganized, just ask the guy behind the counter for what you're looking for -- he knows the location of everything.

Yogi Records has a great selection CDs, Vinyl, Memorabilia, Out Of Print, Rare Records and CD Singles. All the prices are very reasonable. The store has a lot of character the staff is very helpful and they even have a spoken word series on Friday’s. If you are looking for a good store for music this is a great find in the city.
