If you are a classic aristocrat, or just wish you were, the Hattery in Georgetown will cater to your needs. They really know their hats here! How to fit them, how to restore them when they are old and damaged. Many of Georgetown's elite shop here. Of course, many fewer folks wear hats nowadays than used to, but DC still has a place for the old fashioned lady or gent.

Check out Meeps on U Street. They've got a decent selection of mens clothing - from shoes to jackets to retro shirts to pants. The prices might be a little high, but then again the selection is probably worth it. It definitely beats sifting through the piles at the Salvation Army in hopes of finding something; Meeps has already separated out the vintage items.

As the name suggests, this clothing store is focused mostly around vintage jean sales. That's not all they sell though. Other American classics like Converse All Star sneakers, Navy pea coats, and Hawaiian print shirts are easy to find here as well. Prices are typical for a Georgetown clothing store, so be prepared to drop a few extra dollars for your vintage American-style clothing.

More
A small vintage clothing shop that specializes in old jeans and short sleeve shirts, Rage is a good place to go for higher end vintage clothing. By no means is it a thrift store. With large selections of classic and Izod golf shirts, if you're in the market for either of those or have some money to burn, give this place a shot. If you're instead looking for some cheap thrift buys, better look elsewhere.

The guy is real nice, good turnaround time, reasonable prices. And he does pretty good work.
Another good spot if you are working within a budget and need good work done.

This is a local store with three "branches" in a one-block span. Each branch has a different focus, so if you don't see what you want in the first, try another. As a whole, they've got the best selection of fashion-comfort shoes, such as Dansko, Mephisto, etc., including outdoor shoes and athletic shoes, in DuPont. Their prices aren't bargains, but they have periodic whole-store sales which give attractive discounts. They also email ads for their sales in advance, so you could get on their emailing list and see what you get. Most of their salespeople are friendly. On the other hand... some of their salespeople have an attitude and won't do things because "it's policy," but if you talk to a manager, or just go down the block to another branch of their store, it turns out those salespeople just didn't want to be bothered. Or the salespeople are themselves being lied to. In either case, it seems like they have some management issues. This is what keeps them from being "perfect."

Located among the strip of gay-friendly bars and establishments on 17th street near Dupont Circle, Universal Gear is no exception, catering mostly to gay men seeking fitness and casual ware. More
Highcliffe is quite the aptly named tailor service, especially the high, as in high prices. For basic tailoring, prices were almost twice what a normal alteration service at a dry cleaner would cost and the service was neither faster nor noticeably better. Maybe it would make a difference for a person looking to buy custom-made suits or shirts, but in the case of basic alterations to average suit wear, stick to your local dry cleaner.
