This has been my number one stop for tobacco products since I movied to DC six years ago. They probably have the most knowledgeable staff of any area tobacco dealer. And to my knowledge, they have the largest walk-in humidor of any shop as well. Pretty much they stock everything but the cubans. (And who knows, maybe if you say the secret word??) The prices are very reasonable, so much so that I've been able to afford their wares even on my non-proft salary. Keep in mind this review refers to cigars and pipe tobacco, since I've never purchased cigarettes from them.

I purchased a fouton here and experienced friendly staff and a good selection. They carry a lot of basic furniture at decent prices, plus some modern and space age looking stuff at higher prices. It's tucked in a tiny warehouse area off of Edsall. Don't let that turn you off. There's some nice stuff to be had.

It's fun to walk by International Art and Framing because they always have beautiful and unique prints in the windows. They sell more of the same in the store where they also do a brisk business in framing posters and paintings that customers bring in, in addition to selling already framed and ready to go prints. The prices are pretty reasonable for this area of DC.

More
Muléh, which means "to come home" in Javanese, was originally a South Asian furniture store, and now also sells women's clothing. The furniture is eco-friendly and has sleek and modern lines and designs. The furniture is minimalistic but looks really cool, with focus on the textures of the furnishing. Because of the eco-friendliness, it feels very earthy - I get a feeling of peace looking at the furniture.
The clothing is also cool and unique. The South Asian theme doesn't carry into the clothes. These are simply trendy, modern clothes that you wouldn't find in a department store.
Muléh is right off U street and next to some other really cool stores including Home Rule and Go Mamma Go. This area is a cool place to look around and decorate your space - it's all so funky and fun.

You have this empty room in your house, how are going to furnish it? I would go to Theodores furniture store. Theodores has a very modern collection of furnitures to make any room look sophisticate yet have that useable furniture feel. The prices are high, but you are paying for a piece of art. The salespeople are all professional interior designers and wil steer you in the right direction.

As someone who just went through the process of building a new home, I have the utmost of respect for architects. However, I discovered during the process that stock house plans can offer the same level of detail and design as an architect. Just food for thought... http://www.dreamhomesource.com.

This place is serious. If you have something very special to frame use this shop. I know people who come in from out of town to have things framed. They have a huge selection and are able to suggest the right thing for your artwork. I thought I knew about framing, but they use a special vacuum type thing to create dustless frames and they don't drymount things because their way is better. They are also super expensive. But it's really worth it if you have something worth conserving. Real attention to detail.

Star Trading Inc is what the sign says on the door, but their various listings around the Internet show them as CLI Import-Export. Well, that kinda makes sense, it is all imported stuff that they sell.
This is an Asian variety store. It resembles a Dollar Store sorta, but everything is Oriental in nature. There are some very cool things here if you really look. I picked up an absolutely to-die-for purse today for a mere $20. I couldn't believe my eyes.
There's nick-knacks and hair supplies and little toys and clocks and oh yeah.. those cool Asian silk dresses with the slit up the sides? Those are toward the back and only around $50. Very pretty, those. I did overhear a little haggling on one while I was walking around so they are willing to discuss prices.
I dunno. The bottom line with this one is that it's full of mainly little cheap stuff, but here and there are some really nice items at great prices. So, if you wander in here do take the time to scour the aisles. You'll be glad you did.
PROS: Some gems among the rubble
CONS: Well it's mostly junk

More
Wonder Graphics isn't unlike the dozen or so other frame shops lining the K Street Corridor. They're not the most expensive place to get a picture framed, nor are they the cheapest. Where they do excel, however, is their card selection. While the walls are lined with frame choices, the middle of the store is taken up with one of downtown's most extensive card selections. I was delighted to disover them after years of stopping at the CVS and Rite Aid to sift over a paltry slection of overpriced hallmark cards. Now when I send a car from Wonder Graphics, it actually seems like I care about the recipient.
