One of three markets in the Yes! chain of organic markets in DC, the eastern market store caters to the quick meal crowd. Although the aisles are small and things can get a little tight during the after work hours, Yes! has everything the DC veggie needs for a healthy meal. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about where to find all your needs in the well-packed and -stocked store. Although it isn't Whole Foods, Yes! offers a wide variety in a small space and is conveniently located just a few steps away from Eastern Market.
Of course, be prepared to pay a premium. Unfortunately, organic food still costs quite a bit more than what you find at your neighborhood grocery store, but it makes up for it in flavor!
The only hesitation I have with Yes! is the produce, but that is only due to the fact that you are two blocks from Eastern Market, where fresh produce, meat, and dairy products can be found year round. Without a doubt, Yes! is the best organic store on the Hill - they also offer a great variety of wines!

What can you say about Whole Foods? The selection is great. The food is perfect. You don't even have to worry about your inability to select a perfectly ripe peach or plum -- all of the peaches and plums here are in that precious stage that lasts just a few days where they are perfectly sweet and ripe. The only issue with this Whole Foods is the crowds. When the supermarket came to this neighborhood abutting Logan Circle and the edge of Dupont Circle, residents were overjoyed. It meant that their neighborhood once known for the availability of ladies of the evening had now officially crossed into the realm of gentrification (that and the opening of a Starbucks just across the street). What this also meant was that everyone - I mean EVERYONE - would want a taste of this store, especially, say, around 7 p.m. in the evening. That's when you can hardly tiptoe down an aisle without someone jostling in front of you to grab a loaf of bread. And despite the hustling of the cashiers, the lines are long. Shop here for the quality, but do some relaxation aromatherapy before you come.

Down the street from the the Social Safeway, the Glover Park Whole Foods offers plenty of opportunities to see local celebrities and trendy young professionals. Plus it offers all the healthy organic food Whole Foods is known for. The premade sushi selection, prepared by Sushi-Ko next door, is especially good.

"My name is Brittany and I would like to say a few words about my experience with Reiki Master David Wright. I am 28 years old and I am in recovery from drugs and alcohol. David and I met through a mutual friend and after talking with him I decided to try a reiki treatment. I have to admit I was skeptical at first but at the same time I was very open to the possibility of the treatment helping bring me back into balance. I was very pleased with the way I felt physically, emotionally and spiritually after the first treatment but that was just the beginning. Over the years I have come to David seeking friendship and support, as well as reiki through my recovery and he always greets me with open arms. He has since moved away but we still keep in touch. Most times just having a conversation with him makes me feel like I just had a treatment. I have had Reiki treatments from other Reiki Masters and I have to say that though all of them have been helpfull, I have yet to experience such a powerful force of positive life giving energy as I experienced working with David. There is no doubt that he was put here for a very specific reason. To help others reach their full potential through the work that he does. Thank you for listening. Sincerely, Charlotte Brittany W."

Voorthuis Optical may have a bit of a strange-sounding name but the eyeglass frames featured in their window are clean cut and classic. They sell many different designs and you can expect a bit of a higher class selection here than you might find at a mass retailer like Lenscrafters. The prices are correspondingly a bit higher too, but given that glasses are something you wear everyday it is good to get a pair you really like.
