This liquior store is quite possibly the only store in DC where you can find a GREAT selection of wine and spirits at reasonable prices and a knowledgable staff willing and able to answer any questions you may have. Everyone in the store is helpful and friendly, and they really know their stuff. I highly recommend going there if you're planning on throwing a big party and you need some help picking out a few good ones.

This liquor store down the street from the Intelsat building is where all the embassies shop for their liquor. The staff is very knowledgeable and able to suggest pairings for any meal. The real bargain and what makes it worth a trip across town are the items in the deli counter. The rosemary ham is delicious. The smoked fish is yum. They have a bunch of cheeses, they don't carry the really obscure brands. They do stock a lot of cheese though. Friendly, efficient staff. Sometimes for the fourth of July this shop will stock the Hebrew National brand hot dogs. They are really, really good and hard to find in Washington. Also, this shop advertises in the food section of the Washington Post. You can see what's on sale in the Wednesday paper. They have some good deals. Parking is at a premium. Well worth it.

Calvert Woodley is truly a find! I have found the prices on wine and liquor here to beat any other store in the city. They have an amazing selection of both wines and spirits and beer and they even sell their own store brands which are perfectly decent for mixing and are extremely well-priced (less than $10 for a 1.75 leader of vodka for example!). In addition to the liquor they have a deli where they sell cheeses and sliced meats and some salads. Check out the cheese treasures-- leftover pieces that are sold for only $1 each even though they may be worth much, much more.

Calvert Woodley is a good sized wine store with a very nice fine foods section. But what makes it best is they have good weekly Cheese Deals in their La Cheeserie advertised in the Wednesday Washington Post and online. My wife stops by regularly to get good deals on basic specialty cheeses. They also carry a good line of baked goods, coffee and other fine foods.

Calvert Woodley Wines & Spirits is a great local store for wine, liquor and cheese. The coffee and other food items are also great. The service is excellent. The cheese selection is great. They also know a lot about cheese and wine. I also recommend you check out their clearance shelves since there's always some very good bargains. The place is often crowded on weekends, and its not that easy to find parking in the area, but its a great place to visit nonetheless.

For being in the middle of the city, this store has a great selection of wines and other alcohol and a pretty knowledgeable staff who is always willing to help you pick out something to go with whatever you're serving. They also run some pretty good specials on decent wines.
They also have a great selection of cheeses including 99 cent "cheese treasures" the unlabeled leftovers from the day before - take your pick! But the best thing about their small deli is that they are the only store on the upper end of Connecticut Avenue to stock Creme Fraiche.
Other than being super stingy with their empty boxes when you want them to move, the store is great.
