Pretty cool place to see a show. Not in the nicest of neighborhoods, but is easily accessible via public transportation. There's not a sign with the club's name. You can choose to watch a show from the floor or upstairs. Acoustics are pretty good too. Since I'm from LA where indoor smoking is generally banned, it was a bit annoying inhaling secondhand smoke.

I have been going to shows at this club since the early 90's (located then downtown) and can honestly say that it is one of the best clubs for a show in the country. Perhaps it is the size of the venue, or type of acts that it draws but I and my friends always enjoy shows here. There is a online calender or you can look in the city paper for a list of upcoming acts. Drinks are available, and unlike many clubs in America you can still smoke inside. This is also a great club to catch up and coming acts for a cheap price.

This is clearly the best music scene in Washington, DC. This club is respetced nation wide. So many great acts come into this great venue. Since it holds only a few thousand people tickets usually sell out quick for name acts. The best way to find out who is coming the 9:30 is by registering on their site to get concert and presale notifications. I highly recommend seeing a show in this intimate venue.

If you're looking for a place to check out a band in DC without having to brave the crowds at one of those basketball arena sized venue, check out the 9:30 Club. They tend to attract acts that fall somewhere between the relatively unknown and the chart toppers (meaning they pretty well run the gamut), and the venue itself is a great place to watch. It has two stories (plus a bar in the basement that's worth trying out if you arrive early) with multiple locations where you can see the stage clearly. Check out the Washington City Paper or the weekend section of the Post for upcoming shows.

Widely recognized as the best music venue in DC, the 9:30 club is just as good as you heard it was. I've seen groups from Ben Folds to Guster to Sufjan Stevens to The Decemberists there, and every intimate show (with only a few hundred guests) has been great. Downside: there's only very limited seating and the vast majority of people stand in the floor. If sitting is a big deal for you, you'll have to get there quite early and head upstairs to the balcony and enjoy the show from up there.

The 9:30 club - thustly named because shows on the weekends begin at 9:30 - is the premier club level music venue in the area. They draw great entertainers on a national scale and generally have something going on every single nite of the week. The sound system is great. There is plenty of seating on the upper balcony. There are 3 bars situated throughout the small club - so when it is packed - as it tends to be - you never have to move too far to get a drink. Conveniently located near the U St / Howard Univ metro - the place is easy to find - although it isnt in the greatest of neighborhoods. Tickets arent too expensive - and can be picked up even cheaper (than ticketmaster that is) at the box office. The staff - although quite aggressive in appearance - are very very nice. Check it out one weekend
