We brought our cat in with a bad limp; she couldn't climb and seemed to be in pain. I explained she had run away from a vixen defending her kits on our deck, and we thought it might be sprained. Neither we nor the young vet could find any sign of wound or infection. Nevertheless, she wrote on the chart, bitten by fox and gave the cat a raabies shot even though she was completely, recently up to date. They did x-rays etc., gave us expensive antibiotic. and wanted to send her to a cancer specialist. I asked if it would change the treatment, and since the answer was no, I declined. I felt a more experienced vet would have said, I don't know why she is limping, take her home and let her rest. Cats have an amazing ability to recover (probably why they are said to have 9 lives). Which we did, and she recovered completely. In my view Ithis was over testing and treatment, and I suspected running up the bill which was very high.
One thing more: we gave her one dose of the medicine, and our placid, gentle cat went wild, gagging and foaming yellow-orange slime for about 15 minutes. We threw out the medicine as there seemed no need for it in the first place.

I had brought three different cats here over the years and each time had a positive experience. On one occasion I brought a cat that I had just gotten from the aminal shelter less than 24 hours previous and he had to be put down due to a lung infection. They only charged me 50% of the bill! I have only had good experiences there. Just my two cents.I am not all dismissive of the other experiences written here as they all sound quite aweful.

I brought my cat into Friendship Animal Hospital because I suspected he had a respiratory infection. Upon examination I was told that he might have a blockage in his bowel. $1500 dollars, and a one night stay later, they have not found anything that is wrong. I felt in my gut that they were overdiagnosing him and suggesting treatments (such as exploratoy surgery) that were unneccesary and quite costly.
I had used Friendship Hospital for a previous cat as well and was told that my cat had crystals and he was prescribed medication. I got a call several days later saying they had given me the results for the wrong cat and that my cat was perfectly fine. At least they had the nerve to call.
I went to Friendship because of it's great location, but I think Ill continue to use my further away vet as the experience at friendship was mediocre at best and left my wallet empty.

Every time I took my late dog to Friendship there was some unpleasant experience. First time I took her in was because of a limp and for a blood work. A few days later a doctor left me a message that the blood work results were back and that she is very concerned regarding her kidney values. My dog was sixteen at the time and I thought this was very alarming. I kept trying to reach that doctor, kept leaving the messages to call me even in the middle of the night, to finally get a call from her after five days. The second visit was in September 2006 for a severe seizure. She was being treated there for three days, and was able to go home. The bill was huge, and they wanted the whole amount at the check out. It did not matter the fact that I was neither given an estimate nor told that they to not offer payment arrangements. I was accused in front of other clients that I basically made them agree on a payment plan and that they did not have a choice. For months afterwards I had problems getting the medicines for her because of a payment plan. Nobody even called to check on my beloved dog that barely survived! Unfortunately, she had to be put down last April at the Friendship Hospital at the age of eighteen, and guess what? Two days ago I received from them a lock of her hair and her clay foot print, broken into three pieces that I requested almost ten months ago!
Great job (UN)Friendship Hospital for Animals! YOU SUCK!

The personnel who work the front desk are, for the most part, rude, incompetent and apathetic. I had taken my pet in for emergency care on 1/20/08. She presented with vomiting and bloody diarrhea. While the bill was a lot, I was OK with that because I wanted Bunny to have the necessary tests, etc., to get a clear diagnosis. The doctor called me at 8am the next morning to tell me Bunny was going into kidney failure, the long-term prognosis was not good, and she was prescribing two additional medicines. This is where the problems began. Because I did not have more funds for that I called the representative from the Yorkshire Terrier Rescue League in Virginia, from whom I had adopted Bunny. She was kind enough to offer to pay for the medicine so Bunny could get the care she needed that night (Monday, Jan. 21, 2008). She called the hospital at 4pm and instructed them to charge her credit card. She later told me the woman who answered the phone was rude, had an attitude' and was apathetic. This person also did not follow instructions because when I arrived at the hospital about one hour later, they did not know what I was talking about and had no record of the representative's call, instructions, and that I was to be coming by to retrieve the medicine. I called back two more times to check and was told the same thing. I called a final time about 10pm that night and was told no one had called to authorized any such charges, etc., and they again did not know what I was talking about. This was the night supervisor, no less. I called again right after I hung up on this person, and the person who answered finally confirmed that such a call had taken place, a credit card had been left on file, and no charges had been made. Now it is 24 hours later and I cannot pick up the medicine until tonight when I get off work. If Bunny's life depended on receiving this medici

I repeat: don't use this hospital. My gentle, courageous 11 year-old greyhound broke her leg this past Saturday walking down my front steps. Prior to this, she manifested no signs of pain or degeneration. When I brought her in, they initially thought bone cancer, but the vet on staff said the x-rays didn't show this. They told me their orthopedic surgeon was not available Saturday but they would call him to schedule surgery for her. They told me Sunday morning he wouldn't be in town again until Tuesday, and the soonest they could do the surgery was Tuesday night. Each day that passed, she got a different vet who did not see her degradation. Each vet told me it was okay to wait and she was stable. The head of the clinic read the x-rays and concurred there did not appear to be bone cancer. On Monday, they said they couldn't do the surgery until Wednesday! Finally, on Tuesday morning, I proactively called them again and found out it takes days for them to have a radiologist read x-rays (they send them to **Univ. of Wisc.** to be read by a radiologist there, because there are no radiologists in Wash, DC, apparently). By then, U of Wisc. noted a suspicious spot above the break which wasn't obvious, but no one called to tell me this. I decided to have her euthanized. It took them an hour after I got there to get the drugs, have me sign forms, and end my poor girl's suffering. By then, her whole body was completely bruised, her neck was swollen with edema, and she was crying continuously, even with pain meds. Throughout the time she was there (approx. 68 hours!), they kept telling me she would be okay to wait for the surgery and her condition was stable. For the love of all pets everywhere, stay away from this clinic!!!

This hospital is extremely overpiced for the services they offer. They also do not honor the code of do no harm, and tend to assume your animal has some exotic disease that requires massive and expensive treatment before ruling out more mundane reasons for the symptoms presented.
I have taken both of my cats there and after thousands of dollars of treatment both cats were worse of after receiving treatment there. One died after being put through a series of medical tests and procedures that in retrospect I wish I had not allowed.
The other cat had surgery and while at Friendship Hospital got a very serious infection at the incision site. They recommended -- and I unfortunately agreed to do -- opening him twice again to cut out the infected parts. My cat only got better when I transferred him to another vet's care, who used antibotics to treat the problem.
To add insult to injury, all of their care runs over their estimates. And once one procedure is done, they recommend another. I have never walked out of there with a bill under 2,000 dollars.
