I love Phillip's. I would eat there several times a week if I could. The only entrée I've had, and the one that seems to be the most popular, is the lavish and generous seafood buffet. Everything you could want is here....crab legs, shrimp, paella, great desserts...and you can come back for more as often as you like. When I've been here, I've managed to eat until I couldn't anymore. The only drawback is that some nights the line for a table is way, WAY out the door. And they don't take reservations. Also, parking is at a premium in this waterfront neighborhood. Unless you like driving around in circles for half an hour until a space opens up, prepare to spend some money for parking. Luckily, Philip's has its own pay garage in this neighborhood, where the other garages tend to fill up with the cars of patrons from nearby nightclubs. The atmosphere is crowded and friendly...a good place to come with a group of people. The enclosed patio is very pleasant and a bit quieter than the main restaurant.

They say the best nights are the ones you don't remember. Enter the Brickskeller. At the suggestion of the owner of San Francisco's venerable Toronado, one of the best beer bars on the Left Coast, I went to the Brickskeller back in 1998 when in DC for a business meeting. I remember the physical layout of the bar, the fact that they had Old Potrero Single Rye Whisky, and that they had a kick-ass burger. What I can't recall is what I had after the burger, or getting back to the hotel, or pretty much any details about that night. Needless to say, I list that night as one of my best business travel experiences of the past decade.
Yesterday, after meetings in DC, I introduced my new colleagues to the Brickskeller - and by the end of the night, nine of us were searching through the list of over 1000 well maintained beers for hidden gems, having top notch burgers (and the spinach and artichoke dip was pretty darned good as well)!
For a world-travelling beer geek, the Brickskeller is the place to go to bring up memories of brews past... Adnams from Suffolk, Boon Gueuze from Belgium, Augustiner from Munich, Rauchbier from Bamberg (with all its smoky goodness), perfectly sour Berliner Weisse, Gaffel and Reissdorf Koelsch from Cologne, Uerige Doppelsticke from Duesseldorf, Geary Pale Ale from Maine, Hitachino Nest Lacto Stout from Japan... every bottle bringing forth a memory of places visited and beers shared with friends.
Or even better failing to bring up any memories at all...

This restaurant has it all--great service, great atmosphere, and great food. My husband and I have come here several times for special occasions and are always thrilled when we leave. I would highly recommend the beef tenderloin as well as the lamb. Save room for dessert, they have great one! Also, be sure to look out, they participate in restaurant week and it is a great time to get a wonderful meal for a great price!

If you're a 30 something or 40 something, Zanzibar is a great place on Friday night. The music is a mix of contemporary and old school on the main dance floor, and the lower floor features Caribbean music. It's spacious and, in the warmer weather, there are patios overlooking the Potomac. If you're lucky enough to know someone who belongs to the private club upstairs (or even better, you're a member), that's the place to be. There's even more room to move around and the crowd -- for us old heads -- is more our age. Another nice patio here overlooking the marina....very nice in the summer.

This restaurant is famous for their deep-fried dishes. The entrees served here are fabulous, the duck and fish dishes never disappoint. I’m a very big fan of the dipping sauces they provide with the entrees and appetizers. They go great with everything and really pack a spectacular taste. Everything is of very good quality here. A visit here will definitely fill your stomach with goodness.

This hotel is superb! We stayed on the gold floor for a weekend, and received impeccable service. We checked in separately for the gold floor, and we felt like royalty the entire weekend.
There were personalized business cards in the room, tiny chocolate "paintings" of DC scenes on chocolate easels, and so many other amazing details. We loved playing games in the lounge, and the breakfast, afternoon tea, happy hour, and nighttime canapés. There is coffee, tea, and soda available all day also.
There is a good selection of DVDs to borrow for in the room, and some board games such as scrabble.
A wonderful, relaxing place to stay.
