They always have the best book selections --- nothing contrived or expected. Everything chosen is as if by a best friend. And the cafe has a full brunch on Sundays that's fabo.

We go to this place several times each time we visit Washington DC.

It was a little overpriced, but the bookstore was impressive.
I would suggest going at a less crowded time.

When I lived in D.C., this is where I would get my books. Their are books in every nook and corner of this small shop but everyone is super friendly and non-pushy. This store is so popular, it's packed on weekend evenings.
Another perk is the cafe and I do recommend their Sunday brunch if it is a bit of a wait. But the nice thing is that you can browse lots of interesting books while you wait!
I haven't found a store quite like it since moving back west.
PROS: Adjacent to Dupont Circle Metro

Kramerbooks is a great bookstore with a wide selection. This gem in Dupont Circle always is full of happy patrons. The vibe in here is hard to explain, but it really puts me in an enlightened mood. I??m not sure if it the books, the great patrons or the food options in the caf?? ?? maybe it is all three.

(Though I am a little impartial; my husband & I had our first date here -- so, needless to say, I think it's an excellent date spot!)

This bookstore is cluttered and crowded, but they have the most eclectic collection of new books that I have found in the city. They feature a lot of local authors and hard to find arthouse books, as well as the fiction and literature favorites. Books are spread out on tables in the middle of the store and also on shelves lining the walls, and even overflow in the windowsills. A quick glance through and you will find something intriguing that you never thought of. It's a good place to shop for a gift book for the friend who has everything. There's also a yummy restaurant and a bar. They are open until very, very late.

This bookstore has a great selection of books, ranging from academic to popular literature. The staff is really knowledgable and will help you find and order books that are not in stock. As an added bonus there is a really nice restaurant attached to the bookstore, which has great coffee and snacks, as well as dinner. Kramer's is open until late, for any late night book or food cravings.
