President Bush will go down in history as the one President that actually did anything to bring about peace in the Middle East. And his work in Iraq will result in a safer world.
From Jimmy Carter on, the "peace process" was full of people who were more concerned with "process" than with "peace." Like highly paid CEOs who declare bankruptcy, fire the workers, and keep their fat salaries, many despots in the Middle East blame their people's problems on the Jews and the Palestinians, while continuing their lavish lifestyles. The problem with the Middle East isn't the Jews or the Palestinians, it's the despots. While Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton all sought stability in the region, President GW Bush has served the middle-eastern dictators notice that status-quo, stability, and appeasement isn't the answer.

What do you do when the Internet goes out in your apartment? If you're like most people, you get it re-established. Not me. Nope. I go in search of alternatives. I haven't figured out whether that's because I'm naturally curious or just in no mood to deal with Verizon.

Regardless, it turns out that I live right around the corner from a great place to surf the Web. It's called CyberStop Cafe, on 17th and Church St NW. I'd passed it many a time walking around the neighborhood, but until my DSL woes I hadn't stopped in. Now I'm hooked.

There are two ways you can surf: computers are available for $15/hour, or you can bring in your laptop and surf for free. The wireless bubble also reaches to the sidewalk, where tables are placed for you to see the local sights while you browse the world.

The fare is pretty basic. You can readily get your coffee products, and there is all manner of baked sin for you to indulge in (today they have pumpkin pie, lemon merengue and something that looks pecan-ish). A single cooler contains Coke products, Perrier, bottled water and Naturals juices. There are also wrapped sandwiches, bagels and fruit. It's clear this is more about the computers than about the food.

As for the feel of the place, it's a lot like your friend's townhouse where you went to parties every other Saturday during college. You know, the place owned by three guys with the disconnected bathtub on the first floor for beer and questionably clean couches everywhere. Ok, there's no bathtub, but there are couches and upstairs in addition to the computer rentals there are small tables for you to park your laptop or study materials for as long as you care to hang out. I've been here for hours at a time and people were here when I arrived and there when I left.

All in all, I find this a great place to hang out and read email, do work, read the paper, study, etc. One word of caution: the upstairs area is generally meant to be a quiet space. I've witnessed a few arguments about this, occasionally heated. The wise will have their conversations downstairs.

Incidentally, I started writing this in the cafe when their internal wireless network went down. In trying to connect again, something on my laptop got screwed up, so I'm finishing this at my office before going back home. No reflection on the cafe, although I will mention that the obviously flustered person who was trying to get everything working again was very nice.

I've been to 1/2 a dozen spas in/around DC. This one is unique because it stresses a holistic, organic approach to health and beauty. I've tried the Dr. Hauschka facial and a yoga class. The facial is top rate, no harsh treatments but you still come out looking and feeling great. There were only 3 people in the yoga class I attended, which is a wonder in itself. It's a beautiful space, wonderful feng shui and a nice hot/cold foot bath path that you can walk along before going to a class/treatment.

I’ve dined at Yanni’s a handful of times and have been consistently impressed. The service has been friendly and the food has been great. They know how to cook chicken and lamb perfectly—in gyros, on a salad, or as the main attraction. Their appetizers are consistently good, and if you’re feeling too cheap for appetizers, they’ll keep the free bread coming. My only disappointment has been the squid, which was even more rubbery than expected and seemingly flavorless. The Greek lasagna is hit or miss—once I ordered it and found it incredible, another time I found it dry, as if it had been baked days ago and reheated too many times.

Urban Outfitters is a new thing to me. In FL, if you wanted something from UO, you had to order from the catalogue or the website, here in DC, I have two to choose from where I can go in and raid all the sale stuff! When they do have sales, they go crazy! last time I got 3 pairs of pants for 2.50$ each; the time before that, I paid less than 25$ and left with 4 bags full of books and household stuff.

I love Anthropologie! From the window displays straight to the cash register, I love it all. They flaunt a classic feminine style with a modern flare. Their clothes will make you look as sexy and beautiful as you are without taking away your comfort and sensibility. I just wish I could afford to shop there more often.

Will NEVER give Fletcher (the manager) business again. Terrible, terrible terrible. (Bad enough that I created one of these Judy accounts to write this)
I spent more time in the shop WAITING while they were fixing printers, answering the phones, (not to mention this morning I was one of those people on the phone... waiting to confirm my pickup time because they hadn't called between 7:45-10am and I needed a truck at noon)- moving trucks to block people in to their lot who had illegally parked there, hearing an explanation on why he thought I hadn't filled the truck up after my 8 mile (35 minute trip), how the trucks have cylinders and something about swishing or something? Crazy, angry old man.
We spent 35 minutes waiting to get the keys to go, and then 28 when we returned to turn in the keys. I am so pissed that we didn't have flexcar/zipcar at this point. (I will be signing up tonight)

Penang is an excellent option for lunch during the week, especially if you order the 3 course special (a terrific value for your money). The size of the entrees were decent for lunchtime, and the springrolls are delicious.
