We were very disappointed with the level of service we received here for the price of the food. Drinks were never refilled, the chairs were very uncomfortable, the waiter never stopped by to see how things were going, waiter was not very friendly (seemed to be getting a little nicer by the end of our meal), the food took forever to come out, and the food was nothing to rave about. The food was good, but not worth the price. Will definitely not go back here.

My family has an authentic Italian restaurant in the mid-west and I've always been a snob about other Italian restaurants as a result but not after dining at Campania. The food is very creative, exquisitely prepared, perfectly timed and absolutely delicious! The wine list is excellent. The place is tight on space but if you enjoy feeling like you've been transported to a small, hole-in-the-wall and intimate Italian tratoria, then I feel you should overlook this. It's cozy and filled with intimate, hushed conversations. The waitstaff is very attentive but not overly so. The manager or chef has always visited my table (or the bar if I'm eating there) and ensured everything was up to par. They know what they are doing here. The staff regularly travels to Italy for ideas, tastings and education. It truly is a gem of a place that I hope is around for a very long time. Plus, the added benefit is that if you live in the burbs, you will know that places like this are often downtown to it's a special treat to find something nearby. Overall, I can't say enough about this palce. I would give service a "5", the atmosphere a "5" and the food a "5" as well. The only real challenge is parking but generally, in the evening, you can find something on the street so it's not like parking in the North End. Bravo Campania!!
Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, wine list
Cons: hard to get a table last minute (but that's a good sign!), and parking is on the street

La Campania offers excellent and authentic Italian food and wine. We went there as a group and let the waiter take care of the ordering for us. He started us off with proscuitto wrapped asparagus followed by scallops as an appetizer. The second course involved shell pasta with italian sausage and spinach which was delicious. The third course was a veal chop which was the best I ever had. We had a Merlot with our meals that was pricey but not that great. The food was very reasonable priced and of course the service was exceptional. Pay them a visit.

Waltham boasts 3 upscale Italian eateries, and this is by far our favorite. Warm, informal, romantic atmosphere, delicious food without the "attitude" experienced in some similar local restaurants. When the kitchen has had a foul-up, extra goodies have rescued the dining experience. It's our "go-to" place for a special meal close to home.
Pros: Food, Value

This is the place to go if you want a beautiful (from the inside), warm restaurant, great Northern Italian food, deep Italian wine list, and a spot in the western suburbs. For those reviewers who said they are "real Italians" and the food wasn't real or enough, I say go to Red Sauce. This is the real deal and owner David Maione and chef owner/brother John Maione are congenial and caring hosts. I love this place--the duck is amazing. Get David involved in a wine conversation--he has some of the best selections from Italy. David's mother makes the pasta daily. For a really special occasion, ask to be seated in the wine room.
Pros: Atmosphere, Wine List, Staff
Cons: Location, Can be expensive

The restaurant has beautiful setting, elegant and warm. Good wine collections, we had terrific Chianti. The fresh pasta and duck I had were fantastic. Service was good too. Price was just right for the meal, 20s to 30s for an entree. Its a great place for a special gathering or a romantic dinner. Definitely make reservation!
Pros: Great food, Classy atmosphere, Good service

We ate a Campania's 2 weeks ago. The food, though termed Italian, was not nearly as good as North End cooking. It was overly priced and portions were small. The flavor was OK but certainly not in the "high" category that some people may think. The atmosphere inside was average but step at the door and you get a busy noisy street - suggest not eating outside in warm weather. The food was mixed - some tasted as pre-prepared and warmed up and some as too "saucy". Italians in Italy are into "simple" but tasteful foods - the small portions and "saucy" (French-like) mixes are definetly not typical Italian. Not bad but really a POOR value for the money.

We are Italian. We tried this place--what a ripoff! They put a flower on the table instead of FOOD! The food was avearge at best. But--only if you are not hungry because they give you a tiny portion and you pay a bundle! This place has no value in terms of food vs. price. Food is "Americanized" Italian with tiny portions. As a red blooded Italian..no way I would never go back! Maybe the "know-no-better" people that would say great things about Campbells Soup would like this place.........
Stay out--you are better off at Kuntucky Fried Chicken!
Pros: easy location, parking
Cons: value, portions, fake Italian food
