I know this place is a total fixture and has been here forever and ever. I guess it's sort of like Vinny Testa's (now Vinny T's), where people are impressed by moderate prices and big portions (Chateau doesn't overkill the garlic like Vinny does). I know this place is wildly popular on Sundays after church, and I suppose it makes sense becaues the place is huge and there are lots of long tables which makes it ideal for a large group. They are certainly used to big groups and are very accomodating to them, so that's a plus. All of that said, the food is just average. It's sort of your typical spaghetti with red sauce type of place -- nothing fancy or creative. Definitely friendly staff and a friendly atmosphere. School Street is one way on many blocks, so driving can be a bit of a pain.

The Chateau Restaurant has been a fixture in Waltham for years. In addition to your everyday dining, they offer a variety of private rooms for all of your family functions. The staff are always friendly and attentive and many will go out of their way to accommodate any special requests. The atmosphere is casual and the crowd is a mix of old and yound. The cuisine is primarily Italian foods, although there are some classic fish, meat, and salad options. The dish that the Chateau is known for is their "Toasted Raviolis" which are absolutely to die for! They are raviolis that are lightly breaded, toasted, and can be topped with tomato sauce or eaten alone. Also, they offer a good selection of desserts and coffees to end your meal with.

I visited the Chateau Restaurant on a recommendation from a friend but was very disappointed. The prices and portions are very generous, but the food did not live up to my expectations. My chicken parm was decent, but I've had so much better. Chateau is a family friendly place, but quality is just so-so. You can definitely find something better in the Waltham area.
