This Fall, Richard Oakley repointed a section of our exterior fireplace chimney and reconstructed our main chimney from the roof up. Later when we noticed a leak in our bathroom he discovered a hole in the main chimney in the attic and plugged it with cement. While he was working on the fireplace chimney I asked him about paint peeling on a trim board around a 2nd floor window. When he climbed his ladder to inspect it he found the board was rotted. His wife and partner Dominique bought a board. Richard primed it and later installed it.
A couple of weeks later we called him again to have him trim two French doors and two other interior doors. He made quick work of it.
Richard is friendly and an all-around handyman. His prices are very reasonable.

My bathroom renovation with Chris Curtin was a very positive experience. He was an excellent project manager as well as contractor. He presented a detailed written estimate and project design and he managed his sub-contractors efficiently. Milestones were completed when he said they would be and he was on the job every day. He was very accessible if I had questions or concerns. When I made changes in design decisions, he made the adjustments in a timely fashion and was good natured about it, such as my changing the paint color 3 times and replacing an exhaust fan that I didn't like after it was installed. A successful project overall.

Why didn't I insulate years ago!! My oil consumption has decreased by more than 30% in comparable weather as compared to pre-insulation days. My house is so much more comfortable -- no longer are our walls freezing to the touch, and the noise level from the street is noticeably decreased. I no longer live in fear of freezing pipes. This is a family business, and they are friendly and responsive. Make sure to take pictures off the wall, because they will fall off. The house also gets very dusty from the cellulose. I researched cellulose vs. fiberglass quite extensively, and although the cellulose was more expensive to begin with, the research definitely showed it to be better than the fiberglass in the long run.

If you're looking for knobs (cabinet, door, etc.), then this is the place to go. They have much more than anywhere else for many miles. They also have faucets plus other bathroom items. What is frustrating is that there are no prices on anything, and you need to be "assigned" to a sales rep before you can get anything priced. This really discourages you if you want to get a sense of what a variety of things cost (having said that, they are very friendly, but they also end up having to look through a bunch of books to price things out. It's time consuming, and it makes you feel a lot of pressure to buy something). The prices are also quite high, but they do carry items of very good quality. They don't really have many things in stock, so you'll have to order and wait for most things.

If you need some type of plumbing supply, then this is the place. They are helpful about giving information over the phone, and in person (also, there are always plumbers there buying stuff, and they're pretty nice about answering questions). Sometimes you have to wait a while because there's no self service and you need someone to get your stuff for you. They have a lot of inventory, as evidenced by all the contractors that shop there. Felton Street is one way, so it's a little annoying to get there, but parking is not a problem.
