On our first visit to Savannah, GA we attempted to go to a place called The Crab Shack. It was a few miles outside of Savannah, on Tybee Island. Let's just say it is an interesting place and when we pulled into the parking lot I wouldn't’t get out of the car and we didn't stay. A couple years later we were back in Savannah and the concierge recommended The Crab Shack. So, we decided to give it another try and we loved it! We were with another couple and decided to order the “Shack Specialty” which is a platter piled with an assortment of in season shellfish, sausage, corn and potatoes. Ours was loaded with crab, shrimp and crawfish. It was huge and cooked to perfection. It is a great place and lots of fun.

The Crab Shack located on Tybee Island is AMAZING! I recommend the "Sampler" for either one or two (although the two person one is big enough for you to split between 3-4 people depending on how much you really eat), I've been here a million times and it's the only thing I've ever gotten (and most people get) because it's so good. The atmosphere is great, I love eating outside on water or on the front patio by the alligators (yes, they have over 70 live alligators in their little lagoon! They're small though).
The only complaint I have is all the dang stray cats running around everywhere which they can't really help because people keep feeding them and they're too nice to call the pound on them I suppose and the dang palmetto bugs but if you've lived in GA for longer than a day, you know they're a problem everywhere! If you have a problem with either of those though, you can eat inside and it takes care of both problems as you won't find either inside the restaurant and you can still see outside since it's all bamboo and screening.
The food's great, the drinks are great and the prices aren't too bad, a little pricey but for seafood and especially of that calibur, The Crab Shack can't be beat!

When you arrive, there are hundreds of alligators surrounding the restaurant. Don't worry. They're little and enclosed but you can pay to feed them which is fun. The restaurant itself is enormous and has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor has beautiful views out over the river. The food is delicious!! Their seasoning for the crab (which you can buy at the giftshop) is unbelievable! The platter of seafood comes with potaotes, corn, crab, shrimp, and sausage. Enough for a crowd. Your table will have a hole in the center and you just dump your trash into it and move on to your next trough (ie. plate).

My husband found this place on the internet so we tried it when we drove to Savannah for the day. Boy, what a disappointment. All seafood is boiled almost. I did find crab cakes on the menu so we got that and they were not really good. They contained pieces of shell we had to keep spitting out! The table was not clean, nor were our chairs. It was noisy and people kept bumping our chair as they past because they were so busy. We ate inside because it was chilly, but even so, the crab cakes were cold in spots. I think they were fresh from the microwave since they were hot in others! The service was friendly, but it didn't make up for the bad food and even worse Margarita that had never seen a drop of fresh lime juice!
We will not go back here ever.
