The Gaslight Theatre is one of the few must-see highlights of Tucson! The performers are so much fun and most of them have been doing this for years. The ambiance is great, you get free popcorn at the tables, and you can order good food, like pizza and flavored sodas. The waitresses dress up in costumes, and they will read your name aloud and give you an ice-cream cone for birthdays and anniversarys. This place is great for families or a special night out.

We have been going to productions at AZ Theatre Company for over 25 years. They always do such a nice eclectic selection of plays and musicals. My favorites have been: HMS Pinafore, Proof, Wit, Alabama Sky. They have had outstanding directors ever since Gary Gisselman was there when we started going. The stage sets are so well done that it's like looking at paintings behind the players. They get great performances from well known names to very talented local performers. There is a nice little restaurant outside of the theatre where you can make reservations for dinner beforehand, though a little pricey it's worth it.

UA Presents bring several shows to the Tucson area when school at the University of Arizona in session. Several past acts include Broadway shows (Oliver, Hairspray, Cookin, Wonderful Town); live music 9 (Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Bobby McFerrin and Al Di Meola and Manuel Barrueco); dance performances (Miami City Ballet, Momix, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Beijing Modern Dance Company). The company itself has had some problems with low attendance to shows and has had to cut some shows from its upcoming season. The shows and acts that do come are always top notch thought. Centennial Hall is a great venue, easy to see from every seat, has been there for a long time, and is ever rumored to have a ghost! It is located just inside the main gate of the UA. The only setback I would say are the ticket prices, which may be contributing to the loss of ticket sales. They do have discounts for people that work at the UA and students.

This place rocks! They have an amazing selection of shows from both local and national artists. There are shows almost nightly and the covers are almost always reasonable. The dance floor tends to get way crowded during popular shows but you can always wander into the huge lobby, which also has a full bar. Along with the club, it is connect to Hotel Congress, a long-time Tucson staple. Never knew anyone who stayed there but would be fun for kitsch value. There is also the Cup Cafe within the building that has amazing desserts. Anyway, the club is pretty much in the center of downtown and one of the important places for entertainment in Tucson. They often have all-ages shows which is nice for the area teenagers as well.

Ballet Tucson is a staple around here. They perform as theirselves or accompany orchestras and plays. There's some young dancers here, but they show such great potential, you can't help but hope they make the big time. Their choreography is stylish and neat and not so hard as to try and make the dancers fail (I've seen that too much in other companies). Fleet of feet and happy to dance, that's the performers in Ballet Tucson.

This theater has opened and closed several times over the decades that it has been in existence. There have been several remodeling efforts. To that end, it is now open again and doing great. They have brought in a lot of great national touring acts on the indie, rock and alternative scene. I haven't been there since the latest remodel, but it is a pretty big space with an old movie theater feel. They do have a full bar, but the shows are all-ages, which I always think is nice. Their box office is easy to get a hold of, which is sometimes not the case of some smaller venues. Ticket prices are always affordable and easy to get.

This is a great little theater. The have several resident companies that perform out of this small but intimate theater. Most popular are probably their children’s productions which are pretty much held year round and include a good variety of shows. I am not a big fan of theater in general, but I took my nieces and was nicely surprised to be amused and enjoy myself. The actors are young but do a great job and are enthusiastic. They get the kids involved instead of just doing the whole production from start to finish.

Nice local venue that hosts both national and local acts. They also have weekly dance themed nights and host several happy hours. The dance floor is a little small but they have lots of room, with a large wrap-around bar and booths lining the windows. They serve appetizers I believe. They also have an outside patio to chill at. The staff is alright, could be a little friendlier. Nice that is it centrally located and yet close to everything. Also near restaurant row on Tanque Verde. Prices for concerts tend to be very reasonable. Not sure of cover prices on nights when there is no bands playing.

If you like comedy spoof theater, this is the place for you. They have an endless amount of shows throughout the year and they all tend to be sold out at some point. The theater is located centrally and a little east in the city. It is attached/ a part of LIttle Anthony's Restaurant next door, which means you can get pizza, milk shakes and full service dinners during the shows. The latest productions include "Sinbad." They also have a regular Monday Night Family Concert Series that showcases local bands/ vocalists. Everyone who goes to this theater seems to have a great time. If you want to attend a show, I would suggest making reservations. All shows start at $15.95, with discounts available.
