We went here on the recommendation of a friend. I have to say it's the BEST indian food I've had in the capitol district. The best...! We've been there for dinner twice now and are getting ready to try out the lunch buffet as I type.
If you're looking for indian food in or around Troy NY... check out shalimar on Fulton Street.

Pros: reasonable price3s and excellent food
Cons: the interior is nothing special. You don't feel like you're in a nice establishment. They should renovate the interior... paint it allnew window treatmentsnew tables & chairs and so forth. That would make it really nice.

While in the area for the Saratoga races, I happened upon this restaurant. Reminded me of both the English and Irish Pubs I visited over the years in Europe with friendly and courteous staff. From the very unique menu I choose Nannies Chicken and Biscuits, three cheers to nanny and the chef, it was not only delicious but the serving size was more than I could finish. My partner, who proclaims to be a burger aficionado, had "the best burger in town" and wholeheartedly agreed. I chose the Cider on tap, which was surprisingly delicious and my partner had a hard time narrowing down a choice, but went with Blue Point Hoptical Illusion and was not disappointed. We will definitely return to Holmes and Watson during the 2009 Meet.

This store has a huge selection of beverages. Although most are beer, there are some sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages. If they don't have it on the floor there is a good chance they have it in the back, which is what we had to do once. It was really cold too. Excellent for a quick run to the store on game nights!

The south end tavern is a historical site with the original ladies enterance sign still hanging outside of the dining area. It is a local favorite with great food. Have been told that the corn beef is corned on site and that is what makes it so good. It was also named best fries in the area from what I can remember a while back. It has a kids menu as well as great varierty of choices. The prices haven't been changed in ages so you can stillget a cheap meal. My favorite part is that the kitchen is behind the bar so you can watch your food being cooked so there is no funny business. Drinks are also really cheap. I would reccomend it to anyone that asked.
Pros: Great food cheap prices
Cons: Poor Lighting

The Fudge Fancies are absolutely heavenly! In fact - I don't think I've had anything from their bakery that is not melt-in-your-mouth delicious! They made my wedding cake and were very easy to work with (even though I was a stressed-out, cranky bride-to-be!). Everyone loved the cake and it looked stunning!

More
The outside of Ted's Fish Fry looks pretty ordinary, as does the order counter that I first walk up to to order my food. The place looks straight out of the 70s, as the cashier yells our order back to the cooks. We wait for a few minutes until our tray is delivered, and Boy, is it worth every second.
A typical orange tray holds our our three items: "Fish Fry w/ Chilis", "Chessburger w/ Everything", and "Regular Fries". I am surprised at the careful placement of each item on the tray. The three items are placed evenly in thirds, across the horizontal position of the tray. A thought crosses my mind concerning the simple aesthetic of these items, the absence of cartoon characters or graphic advertisement on the tray.
We sit down at our table. I look down at the 15" Fish Fry loaded with "Chilis" (That's what the cashier yelled out) and the order of fries w/ ketchup already poured at the top, with a simple fork jetting from the top. My fiance grew up in Lansingburgh, the first bite of her Cheeseburger w/ Everything excites her. "Everything" means Onions, Pickles, Ketchup, and Mustard at this place. The Onions are carmelized extremely well. I took a bite of that burger and want to go back and order one for myself. I am a bit surprised "Chilis" means Cocktail Sauce here and a tad disappointed my Fish Fry doesn't have an extra kick to it. Overall, the Fish Fry that was presented to me has amazing texture and taste.
The place was virtually empty, only three other customers on a Sunday around 4:00pm. Ted's Fish Fry is worth a visit if you enjoy old school American fast food. A huge step up from the Burger King down the street. Fish Fry is iconic around the Capital Region. I'd say Ted's over on Second Ave. is so far my best experience with Fish Fry. The Burgers remind me of the ones Popeye's friend Wimpy used to eat. When you get to the counter, say "I'd gladly pay you next Tuesday for a hamburger today".

Ted's Fish Fry is a unique place in the Troy area. It is reminiscent of an outdoor ice cream parlor, because when you go in you have to go to the left side to the ordering area. The employees are all enclosed behind glass windows, and you can see them preparing the food. They are able to get your order prepared quickly and efficiently.
Ted's food is generally good quality fried food. They have fish fries, clams, chicken tenders, etc. I have only ordered their chicken tenders there, but I have always been pleased with them. Their milkshakes are all very heavenly.
You can expect to pay about $8 for a meal with coleslaw and fries. You can definitely get more food for your money else where, but it won't be the same.
