More
The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall is commonly regarded as one of the best acoustic performance venues in the world. Having attended several concerts there, I can confidentially say that it certainly appears to be the case. Sitting in the Orchestra seating, I felt as if I were actually right on stage with the musicians. The sound flows out of the circular stage and reverberates back to the audience.
One of the downsides to the perfect acoustic ability of this place is the fact that they cannot update their seating. I think it's possible that they stumbled onto their acoustic advantage and realized that if they were to change things, they could lose that. As a result, their seats are completely ancient, dating back to what I believe is the turn on the century.
Recent concerts there have strayed from classical music, which is what I have gone there to see. The oldies group America recently performed there, as well as Anousha Sankar, Ravi Sankar's daughter.

My family and I enjoy heading over here on a rainy afternoon. The kids can bowl and have fun. The lanes are clean and the people are very nice. They have the usual bowling chow - drinks, snacks, etc. There is parking in the rear of the building, and it's easy to access from downtown.

The Valley cats are a nice night out for the family. It is inexpensive and fun for everyone. There's nothing like an old fashioned baseball game! They have specials for every night of the week when they are in town. Sundays are an expecially good deal for families.

I have done some volunteer work at Troy's Junior Museum, though I have not attended it as a visitor. I feel as if I have gotten a good feeling about what the museum is really about.
I think that if you have young children, the Junior Museum could be a great way to spend an afternoon. I think above the age of 7 or 8, children may begin to get tired of the museum.
Some of their features include an animal room, a play room, a bubble room with a bubble machine, and exhibits on natural things. They also have a gift shop with numerous educational and amusing toys for young kids.
The Museum offers services for Birthday parties. I think that it could be a cute idea to have a birthday party there and stray from the standards of in the home or bowling alleys, etc.

NYSTI now located in Troy (used to be part of the EGG in the Empire State Plaza) is a great program for those that can afford it. The education provided on theater and acting is amazing. They offer several sessions through out the year. They have internships for high school students as well. They perform many shows through out the school year for local schools as part of the arts in education programs - these shows are extremely well done. They are entertaining and amusing. If a family can afford it and your child is into the arts this is the place to go!
