Food was well prepared but menu was overly exotic. Tremendous wine list. Service was affected, stiff, and unaccommodating. A parking fee for a restaurant of this caliber seemed inappropriate. We were also dismayed that in a nearly empty restaurant, a loud, drunk party of 4 was seated at the next table.

I went to Ratty's with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. Working in the Princeton area I had always heard wonderful things about Ratty's and the Sculpture Gardens; so when a friend suggested we go there, I jumped at the chance. Driving up to the building, you feel like you're entering a story. The architecture is fabulous and the lighting was so romantic. Walking in to the restaurant, I felt as though it captured the splendor of its namesake character Mr. Ratty from the children's book, The Wind and the Willows. Mr. Ratty "threw the best parties with the best wine" and Ratty's does not disappoint. I suggest starting with a drink; I loved 'Ratty's Rum'! My appetizer was forgettable, but my entree was amazing. I had stuffed veal chops. I think they were a special on the menu...I have dreams about them they were so good! For dessert I had an ice cream sandwich to die for. It was very rich, and I should have shared it, but I was feeling gluttonous! After dinner our party walked through the gardens to burn off some of the calories we ate. We should have walked around before dinner because the lighting would have been better, but it was beautiful none the less. Walking around we also discovered Kafe Kabul. It is a little cafe near the bar that serves a small menu (much lower in price than Ratty's) and they have weekly live music. I'll have to get back there to check it out this summer.
Pros: food, ambience, service
Cons: very expensive

After a wonderous stroll the gardens on a bright sunny day my friends and I "treated" ourselves to lunch at the restaurant on the grounds. We ate in the Kafe, a beautifully decorated brightly lit room. We were surrounded by brightly colored window hangings and Moroccan decore. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable, not only about the food but the grounds as well. The food was delicious and satisfying. I reccommend the Tapas and Poutines. Of course while you are there try one of the fabulous wines by the glass or let one of the friendly bartenders mix you a signiture martini like the "Barry white". I will definatly be returning.
Pros: Grounds admission included with lunch, ambience
Cons: no fine dining lunch available

I agree with the previous reviewer The sculpture garden, as well as the restaurant itself, are beautiful but the price tag is too high for the dinner served. Although the appetizers were very good, both entrees and dessert were just OK. When spending $160 for 2 (with tip), the food should be as exceptional as the location. We will return and try lunch because the atmosphere of the place warrants at least one more visit.
Pros: Beautiful Grounds, Beautiful Building
Cons: Too Expensive

A beautiful restaurant on beautiful grounds. It's whimsical, magical and elegant all at once. Unfortunately, the food (and what you pay for it) isn't a match for the surroundings. The food is pretty good but you expect much more for the money and considering that no cost was spared in creating this place. Service is also over the top and poor considering. There are too many other retaurants that are much better to go back.
Pros: Beautiful grounds, Beautiful restaurant
Cons: Poor service, Not a good value
