My wife and I often drop by Nijiya Market to buy some Japanese ingredients whenever we feel like cooking Japanese dishes at home. We find that they have a large selection of Japanese food products and everything is organized pretty well so that you can easily find what you want without much effort.

This is a great little neighborhood market on Hawthorne Blvd in Torrance south of PCH. It is primarily a Middle Eastern market and offers a wide selection of imported foods, including olives, preserved fruit, olives, feta cheese, and a large number of frozen ethnic foods as well. It is also one of the best places for fresh, wondeful produce. Vine-ripened tomatoes (that actually taste vine ripened!), wonderful fruit (especially the mangoes, grapefruit and cherries in season) and fresh herbs are all priced incredibly low. The whole bean coffee is wonderful too, and a bargain at around $5-7 per pound.

For everything from booze, to breakfast, to barbecue, this is a truly super market. I rarely ever have to go somewhere else to find a particular product or a better price. Exit on Sepulveda and turn right if you are going south on the 110 freeway. If you are going north then exit on Sepulveda and turn left.

This place has been in business forever (I remember going all the time as a little girl!) and for a good reason- delicious food, PERIOD! The sandwiches and various deli prepared foods are delicious and there is a wide variety of dry goods and grocery specialty items (many Italian imports) and hard to find sodas, beverages and delicatessen specialties. The ambiance is rustic and old-fashioned, yet clean and modern and you'll enjoy filling your basket with delicious treats from across the Atlantic. Try any of the hot or cold deli sandwiches which you can take to go or eat in the little dining area on-site. If you are planning an impromptu picnic at the beach, this is a great place to stock up on food as you head to the sand!

This place is a great place to go grocery shopping for common Japanese (& other Asian) foods/products, like rice cookers & (my favorite) mochi ice cream. On top of having a grocery store, this marketplace also has a small food court w/ a variety of restaurants, a Japanese bookstore, a Japanese video store, & several shops that sell stationary, car accessories, & other little trinkets.
