Like eating in darling Carmen's own kitchen, this is hands-down the freshest, tastiest mexican for miles around, Westside included. The al pastor is amazing, highly seasoned roast pork, as is the chorizo, carnitas, tortas, and salsas, including an innovative avocado verde. Weekends feature fresh-made pupusas with cortido, and a menudo that sells out quick. Plus, for a taqueria, the environs are warm and well-appointed.
Pros: inexpensive, authentic, hidden-gem

From the outside I thought it was a coffee shop and we dropped in for a quite snack. The place is beautiful yet very comfortable. The bread came with the two customary olive oil bases, which seems so had to find anymore. My roastbeef sandwich had so many much flavor, I was really surprised. The cigars (beef in a fried dough) were fun, tasty and I so enjoyed the dips that came with them. Even the fries were presented in a packaged cone. Great menu. I didn't want to leave.
Pros: Great Atmosphere
Cons: Service was a tad off

I love this place- everything about it- the food, the service, the location, the ambiance. I go there with friends every chance I get- it really is a great gathering ground. I usually get my favorite- the BBQ Chicken Chopped salad, which is always tasty, alwasy fresh, always satisfying, and I love the tortilla soup- thick and creamy- perfect for an appetizer. Of course, the sourdough bread and butter in the beginning is the best- its hard not to eat too much of it. If I have nowhere to go, and no idea what I want to eat, I usually end up choosing CPK because it always leaves me feeling happy!
Pros: Food is always fresh and delicious
Cons: prices keep going up :(

I have a shop nearby and eat here as often as my body can take it. Tasty food, lots of choices and at a price that can't be beat. The owner is very friendly and they have never messed up my order. You can also get the lunch buffe to go. One of Tarzana's little treasures.
Pros: Good food, great price
Cons: Parking is tough, in shopping center.

The Baja style Mahi Mahi burritos are the best fish burritos I've ever had. I love the spicy ranch style dressing inside. I only wish the green salsa at their salsa bar were a little hotter, but the taste of the avocado salsa almost makes up for that.
I'm not as crazy about the rest of the menu, but then I'm partial to Poquito Mas. Other friends of mine like, so I'm sure I'm just being biased.
Pros: great food, inexpensive meal
Cons: small size, mini mall location

Sam is from Philly so who better to make the best steak sandwich in town. Thin pieces of spencer steak, with mushroom, cheese and onions is the house specialty all served on a large crusty roll. Sam also serves many other items such as burgers, chicken sandwiches and of course, fries, but people come back for the cheese steak sandwiches. Sam's Philly Steak Depo is located on Ventura Blvd. in Tarzana.

I suggest you spend some time reading through the menu. There seems to be no end to what you can order here. The bread is out of this world. You should also get to know the owner is the one cooking the food. I never saw much of him all the times I have been in, but I found out he is the one who has been cooking my wonderful meals. You need to go try it for yourself, and don't be afraid to ask to change or add something to your dish.

This is a find. It is a small, somewhat unknown authentic Mexican style restaurant that produces some of the most amazing spice-laden dishes. On the corner of Shirley and Ventura Blvd., it's not difficult to find but probably not on most people's radar. It is one of the few places in the valley that has menudo, authentic menudo available most days of the week. It's as if someone plucked this establishment right out of Mexico and put it in Tarzana. Whoever was responsible... THANK YOU!!! Real Mexican food at real reasonable prices.
