Bamboo House Chinese Rest

I have been here and it was great, the buffet was huge and everything was fresh and delicious. But other times it has been really greasy and not fresh. It is very small and usually pretty crowded at dinner time and I know they just changed owners, so I hope it goes back to the old Bamboo House. Otherwise it is hit or miss. more

Bamboo house probably has the best chinese food on a buffet in Tallahassee. I agree with the reviewer Paul Y. that the best bet is to have the chef put together a meal for you. But if you're feeling indecisive (or really really hungry) just head to the bar. Don't miss the spring rolls and the crab ragoon (both of which will make you question other restaurant's take on these classics). They have a good share of vegetarian and meat dishes. The service is always prompt (I don't think I've ever had to ask for a refill of my water), and I never get the feeling like I am a cow being herded to the trough (like the two massive buffets in town). The buffet is around $6 for lunch and $9 for dinner. good eats and not too expensive. One tip: don't park in the parking lot behind Bamboo House if you have a sensitive nose and/or stomach (especially in the summer). more

For lunch back in Tallahassee, grab a booth at the Bamboo House . Some say it's the best meal in town. Lucy Chen, who moved to Florida from Taiwan in 1984, runs the kitchen and watches over the charmless dining room. Skip the buffet and let her plan your meal -- chicken with basil and peppers ($9.70) arrives steaming in a foil pouch; watercress with three kinds of wild mushrooms and string beans with garlic (also $9.70) give vegetables a good name. more
